Phil.P wrote: Tue Apr 16, 2024 11:09 am What adhesive did you use when 'wrapping' the loco?

I find that thin plastic 'ripples' if you use solvent adhesive for this.
Good old Wilko's brush on superglue! I used Revel Contacta for the De Winton but the fine nozzle keeps glueing itself up.

Re: Stuart's occasional loco thread - Boot Lane Works 'Lilibet'

Thanks guys.
Forgot to say that I have wrapped the smokebox (front and top), tank top, firebox wrapper and cab sides in thin styrene to avoid spending weeks sanding the 3D prints.

Thansk Phil. It will be plain green as per the cylinders, although it is very tempting to paint it black and put CAMBRIAN on the tank sides!

Have a look at the Model T Ford headlights (and others) included in Dave Watkins' Crewe Tractor models on Thingiverse:

Re: Stuart's occasional loco thread - Boot Lane Works 'Lilibet'

Time and mojo have been lacking recently but I have been working on the body as and when. I've had an unexpected weekend at home so I have been able to complete the main construction, and the loco is now ready for painting: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53638273744_0e7fde1b73_c.jpg Boot Lane W...

Many of the earlier Festiniog waggons were inside framed: https://www.festipedia.org.uk/w/images/7/79/0019-05-10-15-2.jpg?20070301120543 https://images-wixmp-ed30a86b8c4ca887773594c2.wixmp.com/f/df6d73c0-1cac-4eb5-84b7-888fbe8c781d/dajumav-896a8383-be52-4e5f-9a8e-b149e4ef4891.jpg/v1/fill/w_1024,h_69...

Re: Stuart's occasional loco thread - Boot Lane Works 'Lilibet'

One completed and working chassis. A very well thought out design but very fiddly - how people make valve gear in 009 is beyond me! I changed the recommended build order so that I could paint as I went along and got in a right mess trying to put the crankpins afterwards. The holes in the printed ins...

Re: Stuart's occasional loco thread - Boot Lane Works 'Lilibet'

Do you have any close up shots of the gearbox etc. I have a number of self made 3D printed gearboxes that might fit your needs. I did one gearbox for a friend so they could use metal gears in their loco, which is wasn't designed for and even made them bushes to change the gears from 1/8th to 3mm to...

Re: Stuart's occasional loco thread - Boot Lane Works 'Lilibet'

Love to see a loco build no matter how long it takes. How's the de Winston doing BTW? Not good unfortunately. I was very disappinted with the engineering side of it, mainly the gearbox which I found impossible to assemble without either glueing it all solid or having the bearings come loose and let...

Re: Stuart's occasional loco thread - Boot Lane Works 'Lilibet'

I live in West Wales, not far from Saundersfoot. I know the railway tunnels well and it is no wonder the 4ft gauge locos (Rosalind and Bull Dog) were so low as there is barely enough headroom to walk through them. I'm sure the walkway surface has been raised slightly, but it must have been hazardou...

Re: Stuart's occasional loco thread - Boot Lane Works 'Lilibet'

Modelling mojo has been distinctly lacking recently so I haven't done much more to the tramcar. In an effort to kick start things I have broken my rule (finish something before you start something else) and made a start on the first loco in the kit pile - a Boot Lane Works 'Lilibet' https://bootlane...

Rod, now that I'm finally getting around to copying you, do you happen to know the approximate dimensions of this or the other one you posted recently? I think I made mine too big and it's hiding the cute wheels under the side overhang. Mine ended up 3½"W x 4½"L x 4½"H for just the b...

Re: Stuart's occasional rolling stock thread - Bachmann streetcar conversion

Thanks guys The FR buffer is more for show and emergency bumping really, as the actual coupling will be by a swinging clevis underneath - like the Corris coaches. I would like to move the bogies further out, but a combination of the severe tumblehome and me removing a slice of the body means that th...

Re: Stuart's occasional rolling stock thread - Bachmann streetcar conversion

I had some time at the start of summer to make a start on the Bachmann tram conversion. Here's the inspiration, from the short-lived Plynlimon & Hafan Tramway:- https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw5wia6z2qzv7xVZK_RY2AP6BuXOTT10ZLNXUbwmoY4xPxFzznNnzF_4Q1xVp5rTiU0dQ8gUA8ro...
