I'd also go for the de Havilland comet mentioned above. Pressurised cabins really did revolutionise air travel.

I have a very limited budget for my garden railway, my rolling stock collection grows at the rate of about one coach per year. Due to this restriction I decided to build a Locolines card kit "Chunky Diesel" body on my Essel 0-4-0 chassis. After a little kit bashing I'm pleased with the res...

At £600 its not much under a Ragleth! I remember selling the original Mamod Train sets at Beatties for £69.99! Happy days! I agree, I think Mamod have lost their path and need to decide if they want to create higher priced scale models or inexpensive and simple engineering models. I'd consider buyi...

I might consider a cracker if it were in the guise of a steam tram (Wisbech and Upwell style) but the bare engine designs I've seen look too toy like for my tastes.

Slow running really showcases the beautiful valve gear on your Billy.

Enjoy the lingering smell of steam oil in your basement!

I would imagine that a MV would work just as well with battery locos that only have the most basic speed control on board.  After reading through this thread I've already checked out where I can buy a zecar which I shall do when my model making budget recovers a little. To test that theory I had a ...

I threw some used dish sponges in to mine to fill up the space inside the van. Most of the noise comes from below the chassis though so making sure it is well oiled/greased is the biggest factor in making it run more quietly.

If possible could someone post a picture please of how they removed the wheels as I do not want to cut them off and damage the sprocket again. I just pulled the wheels really hard. With a bit of wiggling, a pair of pliers and persistence, eventually they came off. I don't have a vice, I think that ...

Crayfish your video is great. I wish it was a bit longer. I am happy that others have tried this and it works. Once it is finished I will take another longer video, hopefully including some stopping and starting. I'll also try it with a battery loco to look at the effect it has there. I can't help ...

I've also built myself a momentum van in a desperate attempt to make my Accucraft Leader behave itself on my little space constrained line. To add to the tight (mamod track) radius and aesthetically pleasing but train unfriendly reverse curves, there are also unplanned gradients that can cause a tra...

Smoke rings can be made by any circular opening, it just takes a momentary burst of pressure through the hole. This video explains it quite well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4b2SV3ASUxY Skip to about a minute in if you are impatient to see the smoke rings being made. I guess the circumstances by ...

Was that Matt's new G1 4F at the beginning of the video? Definitely my favourite standard gauge loco class.

Hope you have a Merry Christmas in all other regards.
