Re: Does anyone here have a 'Plotter'

A heck of a lot of housewives have a Cricut or Silhouette vinyl cutter and run hobby business, making all sorts of decorative items. It's had quite an impact on the signage industry. If you are on Facebook, search for "Silhouette UK" or "Cricut UK" and you will find several group...

Re: Best mini electric drill?

You can get a chuck to fit the Proxxon mini drills. I have several Proxxon drills and they have all served me well. A couple of years ago I made the mistake of buying the Dremel battery powered drill - turned out to be really cheap and nasty quality.

Re: 16mmngmassoc

Totally agree , it’s not cosy anymore , too professional and glossy particularly the mag , it’s all about bling and spending power. There is always a level of commercialisation in a hobby when it grows above a certain size. That is not a bad thing IMHO as not everyone has the time or ability to mak...

It will for sure. I just don't know when. I was about to order parts this week, but a sharp decline in orders means I have to put it on hold. I won't be able to pay myself any salary this month. Luckily my wife is in public employment and as such is guaranteed pay.

Re: Edith locomotive

Covid-19 has a big effect on two of my largest customers as they sell a lot of their products at craft fairs. Consequently this affects my business and money is likely to be in very short supply for the foreseeable future. This means I can't order wheels and other parts that are needed in order to p...

Re: Changing IP Engineering wheels

Heating the wheels with a gas torch might help.

I don't understand why they supply wheels fitted to axles that then have to be taken off and fitted to other axles. Seems silly.

Re: Edith locomotive

It might be hard to tell from the picture but the chain used is steel roller chain, not Delrin chain. Sprockets are also steel.

Wheels will be 35mm over the tread.

Re: Edith locomotive

No plans for bodywork at the moment but some sort of tram or logging loco look would be the obvious choice. I can easily cut different types of bodywork on my lasers or people can make their own. This is mainly about designing a platform for a low budget steam loco and give people the opportunity to...

Re: Edith locomotive

First test cut of chassis parts. Mainly just to see if the bend slots are in the right location. Wheels will be bigger - these were just what I had in stock. More tabs and holes to sketch in. Might be able to make it a few mm narrower. The frame stretchers conveniently fold by hand and it's all asse...

Re: Cog Railway for the garden

The simple solution would be to use roller chain as the rack and mount a sprocket on one of the axles.

Alternatively I could laser cut some rack in steel.

That was before I got the laser - now I draw the holes in CAD and let the laser cut them 8)

Deltang txs will bond with 2.4gHz Spektrum DSM2 and DSMX rxs only
They don't need to be Spektrum receivers, just ones that run DSM2 or DSMX protocol. Lots of cheap versions - I have used LemonRX for many years.

Can you provide a link to the receivers you have bought? Then I can tell you which transmitter they will work with.

You could also use a hydraulic drive. It would not be that hard to make. Simply use a syringe operated by a modified servo to push or pull oil into the hydraulic coupling.

For the money you really can't go wrong with a loco kit from HGLW.

More about revs I reckon. A 4-stroke sounds better than a 2-stroke and you wouldn't need to run it at full throttle to power a loco.

Re: IC Engines on Wish.Com for Live Diesel?

I would go for the spark ignition version there is a lot less oil used when running on petrol. Add a bigger flywheel and it should be able to go really slow.
