Re: Northfield Tramway

Glad I'm not one of your paying customers! Lovely smooth running though. I've thought more than once that I could get interested in a tram layout, so kindly stop teasing!! Philipy, I make no apology for saying promoting finescale tramway modelling in the larger scale will continue, all...

Re: Northfield Tramway

Spent the weekend distracted acclimatising a new puppy to the house and garden, so basically he-haw achieved on the garden tramway front, other than laying some track where the concrete track base needs to be poured and having a couple of test runs with the trams.

Just need to work on a coupling to attach to standard LGB couplers.
All my stock is being converted not to make use of LGB couplings the rollingstock was originally fitted with, you can have some LGB couplings for the cost of p&p.

Re: Northfield Tramway

I would drive in some metal spikes, dexion, whatever you have, and cast with that in the bed. - Your fill will settle! Phil.P Do you know what, that is very good advice (not sarcasm) I'm getting some 10mm rebar to cast in the concrete base, I'll get a little extra and drive that in to the ground, t...

Re: Northfield Tramway

Lots of sweary words, thank goodness that's the raised bed cum return loop and steaming siding back filling complete, some flaming job it was shifting all that fill material by myself. I left the final coarse of bricks off, one so I didn't damage the top line of bricks, but mainly because it meant I...

Grizzle Flats Stock Adaption

I was a bit concerned when I heard you were chopping up coaches just for the chassis. Then I looked up the coaches, and ( if these are the ones ) there's not much more to them than chassis! Looking forward to your bogie coach with the remainders. Yes, those are the ones. Two other projects from the...

Re: Grizzle Flats Stock Adaption

This is another coach chassis minus its body etc, various holes filled and given a coat of primer, it's one of these that was the basis for the tramway wagon. LGB seem to have used the same underframe for all the Grizzly Flats models, which is handy if like me you model 16mm ish on 45mm gauge. The f...

Grizzle Flats Stock Adaption

Back in what seems like ages ago now, I was looking for a wagon of a type which I could run with my trams, on another forum some people answered my call for advice and offered an option or two. This led to me discovering the LGB Grizzly Flats range which happens to be ideally suited size wise to run...

Re: Airbrushes

that's one reason they take so long! I have varnished in the kitchen extension when the family are out, with the doors, windows and skylights open, which seemed to work, but probably isn't advisable. I tonged in cheek said to a friend put the spray booth on the stove and link the out hose to the ex...

Steamer for Wood Forming

I have a fair bit of wood to form to a curve and I've been thinking about ways to do it, I have been told if I damage another kettle I'll be in bother, then I thought, ah wall paper stripper but its a wee bitty too big, ah ha a general household steamer thingy might do the trick. Has anyone else bui...

Re: Travelling goods crane from Porterhouse Models

I appreciate it wouldn't be exactly prototypical, but if one of these ways available in 45mm gauge I would definitely add one to my fleet, very nice.

The Potters Orchid Railway

For anyone who can I would fully recommend speaking with Dazza about an invite to see what is some real inspiration, superb line, nice rolling stock and great company, thank you both for a great afternoon/evening. Northfield Tramway

Another wee update, a friend who is a whiz with templot has been busy again for me. One of my challenges has been that opposite the raised bed I must retain an area for a wee table, and the side access gate needs to be retained because the various wheelie bins WILL NOT (wife speaking sternly) be sto...

Re: Northfield Tramway

Hard work laying bricks, but worth it in the end. :thumbright: You're not wrong, one lesson I have learnt is that I will be completing the remainder of the block work first, I started laying the bricks first because I knew the position of the front edge, now the front edge has been established I'll...

Re: Northfield Tramway

I picked up some secondhand peco track which is in good condition and purchased some Cliff Barker flexi track and components when I started looking at the garden tramway and it's options. One of my construction challenges is height, the right hand side of the raised bed finished level is roughly 700...

Re: Northfield Tramway

It's been a while since their was any great progress toward actual having a garden tramway. Just now my body feels like I tried to destroy it, buy I now have the first 4 coarses of bricks and internal blocks laid for the flower bed cum return loop. All bricks and blocks have been recovered from old ...

Re: Sanding and Varnish for Wood

Wish I'd asked questions first before using the materials I have in stock, basswood doesn't seem to be the wood of choice for coach build, unfortunately I have already cut the valances for 3 coaches, ho hum. With wood I have learnt cheap means just that, I've used cornwall boats for items before and...
