Re: Roofing slates on the cheap.

I really should make some for my wagons, but the thought of making loads for my 32 wagons fills me with dread!

Re: Spirit vs gas

Another point to consider is that meths firing is a better option in cold weather as it doesn't need to be in gaseous form & under pressure.

The problem with my Code transmitter is that outer plastic layer on one of the wires on the battery holder has broken, it still works but I'm afraid that one day the wire will break completely.

Thanks for the replies guys, this was brought about as I'm concerned about the Code transmitter that came with Beddgelert and I tried the Planet set to ensure I've got a short term backup just in case.

Thanks for the suggestion Tom, I've tried using a new batteries to no avail, I've tried the other receiver I've got and there's a delay on that recognising the transmitter too.

Planet T5 Delay

I've found that my 6 year old Planet T5 set has a delay between switching the transmitter & receiver on and the receiver recognising the transmitter, is there any way to eliminate that delay? I've rebound them a few times to no avail. On electric locos it isn't a problem but on live steam it is ...

I think that Gordon Bennett is a Merlin Monarch but I'm nowhere near 100% on that.

Ol Bill looks really good, the cut back bufferbeam rather suits the Billy.

Very nice work, the addition of little details really helps to bring them to life. :thumbright:

Thanks for the replies guys, she did need to have the rear of the frames cut off to fit the tank. When I fitted the gaskets I didn't think to open them out, I'll keep that in mind next time she needs some work. The wheels haven't caused any trouble yet, although replacement wheels are something that...

Since the last post the Mamod which will eventually be named Baz has been fitted with a large capacity meths tank and to cure her somewhat lacklustre performance she's now fitted with Roy Wood cylinders and a reversing block from the same stable. Seen on test with any loose items left off. ./myff/20...

Thanks guys, to answer Grant's question about steel rail when it's rusty I was told the only real problem is that it reduces adhesion and the rust dust (if that is the correct phrase) can get onto the tyres.

Here's a selection of photos from the most recent running day back to October last year. To make life easier for those with meths fired engines a firing line has been added which required moving one siding and the addition of another. ./myff/2027653/PB050016.JPG Dylan hits on of the gradients with s...

If I remember right she does have an overflow pipe on the meths burner, although she is currently being fitted with another one as the current fitted has been borrowed from another Mamod.

The burner on mine is very quiet, as she is fitted with a meths burner, and the water pump was replaced with an enots valve. While she might never be a concours winner she shines when running which for me is what matters.

Thanks, I didn't know she was anything special. The plan is to keep it looking as close to a standard SL1 as possible, although the new meths tank will be somewhat visible due to it's size.

Earlier this year I purchased a modified Mamod, she's been fitted with an better boiler and cylinders plus a meths burner and displacement lubricator, apart from that she's pretty much standard! She was a box of bits job with most of the loco coming from an SL1 kit. Showing Dylan how it's done! http...

Mountaineer

I am now the proud owner of this modified Steamcraft Mountaineer which has had some modifications, chief among which was the fitting of Roundhouse cylinders and slip eccentric valve gear. She ran well, and I think as I run her more and learn her foibles she'll get better. While she might not be as d...
