Well yesterday the loco arrived, and I must say I'm very impressed by the build quality, and detail the loco has. I've steamed it on my rolling road and at approx 10psi the loco happily started to run. The regulator is the brake handle at the back of the cab. At 90 degrees to the cab back the regula...

Thanks for all the kind comments so far, I've always had a fondness for 45mm ;) and didn't wish to convert - although I do have two 32mm locos which are used on my portable 7mm (course scale) / 32mm track. Ironically after laying the track within the designated area I was asked why I didn't put poin...

My Railway

Well over the course of the Easter weekend I finally layed the first phase of my garden railway. At the moment it is a simple dog bone shaped circuit, with a loops either side of a pond. Although modest in size its a start in the right direction with plenty of room for expansion in the future. It is...

Not quite in the beginning, there was a newsagent called Tom Cooper who got into garden railways. He put an LGB layout in his shop window and started selling a few bits, including steam locos from a German firm called Beck- which unlike traditional British steam locos ran on this strange stuff call...

That is one fine looking loco, a great purchase!

All I can say is that it is just as well I'm in the process of laying my line in 45mm ;)

Steam up for the local Church

Last weekend my local church held a small model railway show in their hall to help raise funds etc, and I was asked to provide a small live steam layout. Although only a loop with one siding layed out on top of tables it proved a success with the visitors and fellow exhibitors. Here are two short vi...

I would say that it is likely to be made by either Bing or Carette.

This particular style of engine is known as a "Stork Leg". The age I'm not sure about but your looking around the 1900's - 1910's.

I received my copy of the book on friday, and although I have only really browsed through the book I am impressed with its clear layout and content. The only thing that I'm a little disappointed about is the small section on track laying. As this is something which I am going to start soon, can anyo...

Does anyone know if there are any companies in the UK that sell the Ruby loco off the shelf apposed to ordering it in from America?

strange you mention the paint finish, as i consider the paintjob on my accucraft lawley finer than my roundhouse engines who's paint is somewhat thickly applied all over. I suppose its all down to personal preference, I have a Caradoc where the paint is very thin on one side tank, where as the othe...

To be honest I think the built quality of the Leader is very high. I don't think there is anything I would change about the Leader, the cab is nicely layed out, a proper regulator hand apposed to a plastic one. Another feature I like is that the safety valve is enclosed in a dome with the dummy scal...

Are you going to paint the cab roof black?
The cab roof is painted black on the outside - shame they don't paint the inside of the cab cream, I don't want to spoil the factory finish doing it!

My first "New" locomotive

Well since I have become envolved in making my own garden railway, all the locos so far have been second hand, until today when my new loco arrrived - a Accucraft Leader, based upon a Kerr Stuart Brazil class loco. Its in dark blue, not the colour it would have been in when working for a living, but...

If you can make a sketch of how you would like the frames I'm sure I could make something on the laser. If you don't mind MDF I can sell my flatbed wagons for £5 each. I can make them from ply as well but they would cost a bit more then - probably another quid. You would have to source your own whe...

Thanks I did see them on ebay and thought the same about the price...

I'm sure I once saw a kit for cane wagons but for the life of me I can no longer remember where.

Looks as though I'll get some flat wagons and made the framework myself.

I've made several locos from IP Engineering, and two of the kits were missing minor parts. Suffice to say after a phone call the parts were in the post the next day, usually with a spare.

We are all human (I think :D ) and mistakes are made.
