I have used Tenmille sleepers with Peco SM32 rail. Peco and Tenmille rail profiles are different so the Peco rail is a tight fit. To make things easier, I filed teeth on the sides of the bottom flange of a spare bit of Peco rail to make a sort of broach. Pushing the broach through the Tenmille mould...

Sorry I don't have a drawing in Imperial. This might be helpful. It is the sketch I did for the tank and burner I used in a model of Bagnall Sealion. The tank sits on the footplate. I resited the gas take off and control valve to the top of the tank rather than on the side as shewn. Not shewn are th...

I had better chip in here. I built the original Wild Rose based on the small quarry Hunslet locomotives used in the North Wales slate quarries. Keith Bucklitch described how to build one, Wild Rose Too, in SMT back in 1987 or thereabouts. He actually built two locos, an open cab and a closed cab ver...

I get the track positioned first and level it if necessary with oddments of slate. Then make a somewhat runny Rowland's mix. and spread it over the top. I push the stuff in between the sleepers with my fingers (wear rubber gloves if you are allergic to cement. Leave to set overnight, then brush off ...

It depends on how sharp a radius you want your curves to be. bent by hand the track tends to straighten out again. This is particularly noticeable at rail joints. You can use extra nails at the joints to avoid this. You should not have problems unless you want curves of less than about 1.5 metres ra...

Visitors travel behind a live diesel

Mini Stacey and Mini Alan arrived today to visit the Birches Barn Light Railway. It was bitterly cold but the diesel started eventually and the duo had a trip around the line.

I do like your tunnel. The nearest I have managed to get to a tunnel on my 5" line is running through garden arches - and under the props holding up an old damson tree. Is your line flat? I have a 1 in 50 gradient which the battery electric hardly notices. With steam though you really do have t...

The driver told me that in the Earl of Durham's colliery they had to have a recharging point every 400 yards. As seen at Apedale it was hauling an air compressor about with it in the second wagon. Driving with the compressor running would of course allow it to go a long way. It has slip eccentric va...

Yes, that is my railway. You would be very welcome to run your loco here. Is Wolverhampton too far away?

Live Diesel

Anton,

Thanks for sharing the videos. I do like the way your loco truindles slowly round your line. You inspired me to give my live diesel loco an airing this afternoon.

I agree with Graeme's apporach. This was how I fixed a loose dome bush on a Mamod. What you need is enough heat to melt the solder so that the bush is locked in place. You can then unscrew the dome. With the dome off you then have an opportunity to make a better job of the soldered joint.
