Re: Aileen Tom Cooper

Simon @ https://anythingnarrowgauge.co.uk has always had an answer for any Merlin related questions I've had. He sells some replacement parts, so might be able to advise? You could try Tony Willmore @ http://www.rhoshelyg.me.uk/Locoworks.html but I don't think he'd want anything to do with a Tom Coo...

Re: ‘St George’ Rolling stock

I have finished the 3 compartment carriage and just completed a guards version. I had a real nightmare painting the guards carriage. I'm not sure if it's because the weather has changed but the spray paint i was using kept wrinkling/bubbling. In the end I switched suppliers and the finish is much be...

I agree. Presumably, you painted before assembly?

Rik
Yep! I painted the main body and overlays separately, lined the overlays with gold pen then assembled and lacquered. Painting was pretty painless overall.

‘St George’ Rolling stock

It’s been a busy year for me so haven’t had as much time to work on projects as I’d like! This is my latest project - a rake of carriages to suit ‘St George’ - a Roundhouse Lady Anne. I’m building freelance style carriages from Line Side Hut. I fear Jerry Irwin’s kits have totally spoiled any other ...

Re: IP Engineering kits

My personal opinion...... The I.P kits which I have built during the past year or so have all been plywood. Compared to some other suppliers I think the material used is thicker and of softer timber veneers resulting in coarser grain. The paint finish is therefore less satisfactory than I would lik...

Re: Yatton Models - Vale of Ffestiniog

It’s been a while since I posted - life has the unfortunate habit of getting in the way of things you’d rather be spending time on! The model is now atheistically complete bar fitting of some Brandbright vacuum pipes. When I got to fitting the window frames I realised one set, the aluminium ones, we...

Re: Roundhouse Millie on a roundhouse kit chassis

Replying to my own post - roundhouse said fitting a Millie body on one of their current chassis kits would be difficult at best. They managed to find a spare Millie chassis in 32mm gauge so I bought that instead!

Roundhouse Millie on a roundhouse kit chassis

I picked up a rather sad looking Millie recently that I'm going to restore. It's 45mm gauge though and my other locos are 32mm. I was thinking about buying a Roundhouse 32mm gauge kit chassis and sticking the body work and boiler on that. Anyone know if this would be possible?

I don't currently have a layout so find it hard to join in! I agree it's good to get people to post though, maybe a project photo of the month/quarter?

I wrapped the front light fittings with some plasticard. Once I’ve drilled out the holes for the LEDs I might give it one last coat of yellow.

A few more photos to show current progress. I'm not happy with how the front 'yellow' lights are looking but have a plan to tidy them up. Everything else is looking good though I think! Does anyone have any suggestions for what to use for vacuum pipes?

Re: MSS side tank engin with meths fuel

Hello,

I had similar problems with my MSS loco, there are some suggestions in this thread. https://gardenrails.org/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=13056

The performance even after numerous upgrades is still not great, I might strip it down again and try cleaning out the boiler.

Safe to say I'm happy with this one! Just need to build a second 33/2, design the 73 and then the fun begins, Hastings Unit....... After that I'll definitely need a break after doing nothing but gauge one for months on end! Nearly run out of room which helps keep things under control! I saw this go...

Both bodies masked up and ready for painting. IMG_1687.jpeg I've now finished one side, looking at photos of the locomotive from above it seems the roof is part green part silver - so I've tried to replicate that. I've almost finished the other side now too. I'm waiting on nameplates as well as find...

You called? Best thing you can do to join at the moment is drop the Garden Railways Rep (a lovely person called James) on gmes16mm 'at' gmes.org.uk Then he'll be able to best advise what to do. That's how I first made contact followed by a visit to the club to look around and get the paperwork. You...

Re: Yatton Models - Vale of Ffestiniog

Hi George. When you fit the electrics are you going for the full forward/reverse lighting setup. It entails a lot of wiring and led fitting but the effort is well rewarded. I used the electronics supplied by Yatton including the sound card option. If you get into difficulty i found John at Yatton t...
