Re: Llewellyn Loco Works #1
Two sides of the same coin. A whistle is needed to warn people walkin in front of a (in my case 5" gauge) train, to communicate with other drivers (banking loco), warn others when entering a junction (W sign near the track), starting off or other things. Without the whistle, something is missin...

Looking for help: 3d model
Ooops, that went wrong.... https://up.picr.de/44248093rg.jpg https://up.picr.de/44248094cz.jpg Just kidding, the pot is made up of two halves. This is an old Märklin acid pot wagon. I only have one pot. The wagon holds four. Could anyone draw up a 3D model so I could have some more printed? https://...

Re: 5” gauge Sweet Pea. Leaking clack valve
Get a few more balls.
After carefully cleaning the seat, check if it is even, remove any burrs, put a ball on it and give a light blow with a hammer to trim the edges.
Throw away that ball, put a new one in and it should do.
Works on my steamers.

That´s clearly the NTSHFTS (not-to-scale-hand-from-the-skies) which is often seen on layouts when visitors are present.
Hardly appears when no-one is watching.

Re: Kerr Stuart diesel
I bought it as a "project".
-motion seized solid
-valve timing is off
-some small bits missing
-painted with a tar brush.
The model is a real three-cylinder compound.
Will take some time to get her back to running order.

help please: Blackberry black
Hi,
another loco has found her way into the workshop:
a 3.5" Teutonic class loco.
The paint seems to have been applied using a tar brush, so it needs to go.
My books state "blackberry black" as the right colour.
Does anyone have a description/example/RAL code for that?

Re: 5" gauge Tiger
Success! The original plans by LBSC had an error: the lifting links for the forward gabs were too short. This means the loco could not be reversed as the forward gabs were still engaged when the bachwards gabs would have to engage. When the lever was in mid-gear position the whole motion locked up. ...

Re: The Railway in the Valley of the Mill
Great work.
What about leaving the added section of the footbridge as it is or paint it in a slightly different colour to show that it had been repaired at some time?

Generating a driver from photos
Hi, as some of you know I have the German Reichsbahn class 132 diesel loco built by the late John Price. https://up.picr.de/42351358pc.jpg A few years ago we had the idea of getting a 3d printed driver figure so John could sit in his own loco. We took a set of 119 pictures of John wearing his Reichb...

Re: 5"gauge grain hopper wagon
Hi Aaron, The barbecue hopper is open at the bottom (square of about 6 x 6 cm). In order to get top air there is a gap of 1 cm between inner hopper side panels and the edge of the coal grate. Coal grate consists of four elements. Natural draught is enough for a good fire. The opening also serves ano...

5"gauge grain hopper wagon
I wanted to practise welding of long straight joints. Tgpps grain hopper wagons are made up of many straight plates so this was the ideal object. BUT: The grain can only be emptied through a pipe between the frames, so a pit and conveyor belt would be needed. So another idea was needed. The two roof...

The lamp looks good. I've used some of those flickering candles in the past but they never seem to last very long before they pack up. The problem is that in these cheap candles they do not have a resistor. I have put one of them in an old tinplate level crossing that was intended to be lit by a ca...

Agreed.
My father has a gauge 1 loco that sounds like a machine gun when running at maximum scale speed.
