Re: The Reading and Squamish Light Railway Stock Thread

Lovely looking loco! As for the pipe, why not just cut it off and solder a new nipple on? Pressure gauge will sit a little lower but not a big deal? Otherwise you could fit a new nipple and a union to a bit of pipe with a nipple each end?

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’

Axle pump is now fitted with its eccentric and strap B03A4246-F3B2-4FD0-8465-78C5D6E5E373.jpeg And I’m gradually working through boiler fittings, clack valve with bypass, the functional part of the dome, and the regulator/blower valve: 2FAF561E-A398-4F85-BAED-569A1FD4ABF3.jpeg Decided to use hex for...

Axle pump done with its ram and banjos, was a little unsure how much movement the stainless balls were supposed to have, but shoved it in a cup of water and pumped the piston and it it moves water, so assume I guessed right!

Re: Llewellyn Loco Works #1

Beautiful job, makes my attempt at an eccentric strap look distinctly amateurish!

Seems to have worked nicely thu...

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’

I’ve started working on the axle pump and have gone about the body in a slightly different way so thought I’d post it in case it was of use to someone. The book calls for 2 pieces of 1/4” round soldered together at right angles B6CCB780-0D13-4489-B44A-3631D87350B9.jpeg I don’t have access to any mil...

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’

Ended up with a bit of surprise free time, so got the burner and lubricator and their associated brackets done. With the burner I deviated from the plans slightly and made a threaded brass insert which was silver soldered into the copper pipe rather than threading the copper pipe directly as that se...

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’

Found some time to finish off the eccentric strap and do a first test on air. Think I need to play with the timing a little bit dead chuffed it even runs!

Just the eccentric strap to go and sh...

I also suspect it’ll be m3, if you’ve got a spare m3 bolt kicking about might be worth seeing if it fits. Probably got a few m3 grubs knocking around, happy to pop one in the post if it saves ordering a bunch when you only need the one!

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’

I appreciate the positive words, just trying to not get carried away until I know it at least runs on air, if it doesn’t work then it doesn’t matter how pretty it looks! Here is a pic of her on the bench, railway is mostly mud and trackwork needs some leveling and joints unkinked for gauge one runni...

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’

Very nice workmanship!! Wish whoever in the UK that built the Project I have would have done that kind of work, and only wish I had the tools and skills to remake a few things like the whole cylinder block assembly. Mine was poorly done and looks like a hack job compared to your fine work. Keep the...
