That's very intersting AD - thank you.
I'd assumed the damping was automatic - partly because I'm sure I've seen a YouTube of a continental cousin (possibly German) running a 16mm coal fired engine with such a device fitted.
Haven't been able to find it at the moment though.

Re: New project, coal fired live steam kit time
That looks like a solid wall firebox AG? e.g. no water space around the fire? So probably relatively simple to build compared to a fully water enclosed type... Is the grate a conventional 'bar' type too, or something different like a rosebud? I can see how you can manually 'damp' the fire but can't ...

Re: Using OpenSCAD to produce drawings for 3D Printing
Interesting to find this thread starting up again. For 2D CAD, I used TurboCAD for over 20 years but it wasn't much use when I finally acquired a 3D printer. A fellow G3 Society member suggested OpenSCAD and I found it was a simple way to get into 3D printing useful items of a fairly simple nature. ...

Re: UK Rolling Stock in G - Project not yet started
I've not been here for a while - so joining this discussion perhaps a bit too late. There is quite a lot of 'Standard' gauge stock available in 'G' scale - on 45mm there is the Bachmann 'Thomas' products, which can be improved - and in Gauge '3' there is even more choice - although (being standard g...

Re: Anyone running g scale gas fired steam locomotives on plastic track?
Well Gauge '3' is (nearly) G scale and these days most G3 railways are built using Cliff Barker track. I'm assuming you mean track with 'plastic' sleepers. This is true of a lot of G1 railways too I believe. Dependent on the fuel used (coal, spirit, gas) - you may need a steaming area/bay with some ...
