In that case, Tony, your brass-boilered Roundhose would need regular testing. I'm no expert, but I understand that brass boilers can deteriorate as they get older, hence the need for inspection. Many Association members do not bother to do an annual test, and even fewer record it............... The...

There are several things going on here - and the first of them is of course the economics of scale. i.e. - if everyone wanted to have a live steam loco in the same way as 'everybody' want s buy a phone, the price would plummet. Fact is however that we are here talking dozens and not millions. The bu...

There is a meadow just down the road, which even this land was once part of, called Ditton Meadow. So with that in mind, I guess it could be called Ditton Meadow Light Railway, so many options coming to light here, really do appreciates everyone's input :) Always a difficult choice. One Graham Wilk...

'So many problems'? I don't see too many. Perhaps I am looking from the other side of the fence because having dealt with three different subscription companies with Atlantic, I don't see hat this is something other than needing tuning – which I believe (from the AGM) the chairman is doing. It is al...

While I cannot be *rsed to change my login - and indeed people will speak as they find, I should first of all say that I am now nothing to do with Warners or indeed SMT - however.... Experience tells me that Warners were the best option for Atlantic Publishers (GardenRail) after changing from two ot...

15 a year sounds very low doesn't it? But I promise you the market is more lack lustre than the blurb in magazines would have you believe. Your problem is that a lot of people are not builders and want ready made and the market is incredibly small. Here's a general selling rule of thumb:- one half ...

I have just started to reassemble my Merlin Maestro after painting the body. I decided to give the chassis a good clean while all the body was off. I have used carb cleaner in an aerosol for a number of years to do this. I don't know what the merlin chassis and footplate was painted with but the ...

I used to find some of my locos hard to light until I invested in one of those gas lighters with a flexible neck. Just open the smokebox door, poke the lit lighter in an inch or two and crack open the loco's gas valve. Lights every time, unless there's a blocked jet which I haven't had since I took...

Re: Millie as Prince?
I'm watching my bog standard Millie, and wonder if there is any problems related if I want to make it into a Ffestiniog "Prince"? Will the heat from the burner be a problem for the closed tank? Can I use car paint and primer from aerosol cans? Have somebody here tried this conversion? I h...

I am now changing gradually to the DJB ones which are lovely. I blacken the quadrant and use silver restorer on the lever. Can you provide the dimensions for the DJB lever and quadrant as I couldn't find any details on their website. I can - but when I get a time slot :-) I do know they are designe...

I don't know about aftermarket, but I have seen older Roundhouse engines on the internet with what appears to be a cast or built-up lever. Looks like they changed to the current 2-dimensional one at some point. I wonder if contacting Roundhouse themselves might bear fruit: maybe they have some olde...

I have been informed that ANG are having problems with their server and it is likely that their website will be down for a period. It is hoped that normal service will be restored later today. Anything urgent do contact Simon Whenmouth by email or phone.
