Re: Yr Hen Felin & Yr Orsaf Newydd
Hi Rod, Thanks for your suggestion. I think it would need a very special grade of plywood to survive outside in the climate of West Wales. I know that there is a totally waterproof form of MDF but it is very expensive. At the moment what I am doing seems to be OK. It has been hot and sunny today and...

Re: Yr Hen Felin & Yr Orsaf Newydd
I have family visiting at the moment. A running day was held in mostly sunshine today with much of my stock in action:- IMG_4188.jpeg Given a good ration of hot sun on the platform surface it was found that the 2mm gaps I had left for expansion were not enough so further thin slices were excised. Th...

Thanks Rod,
I thought the loco was not too dissimilar to Earl at a quick glance. She’ll certainly do for now.

Re: Yr Hen Felin & Yr Orsaf Newydd
Thanks Philip, Interesting to read about your use of foamboard outside. I've never played with SBR though I know a man that uses it. I assume Postcrete is just a sand/cement mix, is it spread dry onto the wet SBR? On another happier note:- IMG_4185.jpeg I have lusted after a set of the WLLR Pickerin...

Re: Yr Hen Felin & Yr Orsaf Newydd
Back to the platform surface saga! As the weather warms up (?) even though I had put lots more pins in to attempt to keep the plastic down the wrinkles in sunshine just became smaller but more of them. As an experiment I got some black 5mm foamboard at The Works and have replaced the short end piece...

Re: The Railway in the Valley of the Mill
Splendid stuff Trevor, I could almost be tempted to try some sound! I really like seeing the motion on the loco. Peter, I'm always frightened the first time I drive a train across the trestle bridge, it's a very long way down if something goes wrong, and carefully follow it round the whole way. It's...

Re: Yr Hen Felin & Yr Orsaf Newydd
A few minutes with Henry hoover and very gentle use of a scraper lead to this:- IMG_4043.jpeg The edging which had taken so long to apply in the first place was mostly cracked and loose so had to come off. Extra pins were applied in a number of places. I'll now see what happens - it has two chances!...

Re: Yr Hen Felin & Yr Orsaf Newydd
Nature, and physics, will always win.. I think you should let the platform have room to 'breath', as once we get some proper sun, I think it will damage itself? Is there a thin surface, to the platform, or is it 'solid' plastics? Phil.P it's 3mm thick and on top of uPVC sheet offcuts. I wonder if y...

I am hoping that by reducing the space between fixings the humps will become more of a minor ripple! Time will tell.

Re: Yr Hen Felin & Yr Orsaf Newydd
Being a sunny Sunday morning a couple of trains felt possible, first however it was necessary to correct some humps in the platform surface which arise when it gets warm. https://youtu.be/e0n-dQenjSk https://youtu.be/oke04voxcJU Trefor did some circuits with the Plateway Models balcony coaches and m...

With grateful thanks to Trevor, ace 3D print maker, there are now running in boards for the new station. They are double sided, two prints for each glued back to back using two part epoxy with a 6" nail for the upright. They were then edge filled with Perfect Plastic Putty, sprayed white and th...

Glad to see that you are making progress again with the digging. My garden seems wet enough to plant rice.
Looks like I might need to get to making the next batch of sleepers!

I hope we can arrange a time for you to visit when you’re in the area, late summer should be fine so long as it’s not the WLLR gala!
