the shay sounds interesting, I know its been done a lot successfully in miniature locos but I don't actually know how easily oil firing scales down.

I like this background to the railway, my Grandfather Peter grew up in Aldeburgh during the war years, and acquired his love of railway signalling there.  Aged 14, he would do the afternoon shunt while the signalman had his lunch! Sadly he can't signal anymore, as he's colour blind  :( He has always...

I love all this 'engine/train' tennis, it just further reminds me I should really read my employers rulebook proper! I would like to own a hunslet one day, dunno what I'd do with it though. Railway I drive at is all standard gauge. Maybe I could disguise it!

I have a few bits.  I'll list them in order of acquisition/built: 1.  5" gauge London Transport Metrovick loco.  Powered by two old car dynamos.  Actually runs very well considering.  Incidentally, is to the same design as Wills tram at the start of this thread, the drawings detailing both loco...

getting the coal fired vertical done and installing the reverse loop. Getting some freight stock and some buildings done is also on the cards.

I've decided the line needs a proper name. So I've named it after my road. The line is now called the Ferndale Avenue Tramway Corp, or FAT.co for short! I've started extending it too, photos will be put up in time.

cats, especially around newly dug earthworks. how one loco in particular will derail at a point others will negotiate with ease. fiddly three link couplings. never having enough ballast. snobs who don't appreciate the beautiful simplicity and operational ease of a geared tram based on a mamod statio...

I do believe that Bob also has a GWR Flying Banana rail car... Am ve...

I can vouch for the design. I copied it except for the pointy out layshaft and its brilliant. A meths burner, 20 psi safety and a top up valve help a lot too. Im putting a tram body on mine.

Welcome! Looks like it'll be a smashing railway! Rather interested in the coal fired Vertical Boiler! Also, what's your method of making tram tracks? easy, slap some mortar mix on the track, filling the gap between rails completely. Get a bit of 2x1 or some other such thing and scrape the top level...

F.A.T.corp!

Hi I can see this is my first post despite being a member a while, so hi, I'm Matt  :) I've finally gotten round to building a garden railway.  Unfortunately its not the recreation of the WC&P in O gauge but a 16mm railway on LGB track   . Track layouts simple, oval of track, passing loop, ...
