I did try soldering it before, but it was very awkward. Don't think coat hanger wire is meant to be soldered!

No, your memory is not failing you, but the loco in question was built for a friend and also forum member George. So I am building one, which will be much improved for my self. The steam loco will be a Willesco Meccano, thing and I have already made the chassis using Accucraft 32mm wheels, refitted ...

Yes, the relay is very serious, but its been needed. Almost all the railway will eventually have this method. The weather hasn't been very kind, though I hope to finish the shorter original layout first, with the rest for next year. As for the other projects, the steam loco has stalled due to the un...

After much swearing, hammering and generally making a mess, the engine is coming along nicely. Now painted blue, the orriginal name of "Black Beauty" wont work so it is to be known as "Big Bertha" on account of it being the largest locomotive to be bashed in the workshop so far! ...

The chassis is an LGB wagon one with the middle taken out and two old bits off an LGB wagon glued on with "No More Nails" glue in the middle. The body is being made from plasticard.

Anglicising an Otto with a Tender

I have had an otto, which has appeared in several gueises over the years, but now its time to bash it into something more permanent and add a tender to carry the batteries when not in use with track power. I had attempted to make a tender before, but this was not very neat or successful, so hopefull...

This is a 2005 model and my dad has had it himself for nearly 5 years himself second hand and in that time it has run a ridiculous number of miles and has never had any problems. Unfortunately I dont think I can repair this fault. It still works and my dads friend might be able to fix it. Cheers for...

Yes there is. I tried retimming in reverse and this has produced a significant forward running imrpovement, but has worsened the reverse running. :x

Tried that, in forward the reversing lever in the block in the middle is pulled out and in reverse it is pushed in. I dont really understand it, since I followed the instructions elsewhere on here and it did not work.

Caradoc Timing

I had a go at retiming my dads Caradoc, which works forward but hardly at all in reverse. What I got was a big improvement in forward motion but none in the reverse. Anyone know how to do it?

Improving Merlin Burners?

Can anyone tell me how I can improve the burner in my Merlin Mayflower? Having taken it out, it seems it only burns a bit at the front and most at the back with the centre being clean brass. The loco does not tend to make steam that well and when going around my layout has a tendency to run out of p...

Yes it is a Merlin Major, but it has fully reversible (and much less reliable) valve gear rather than the standard merlin valve gear which is not reversible, reversing being achieved through a mamod style regulator on the other models.
