Re: Downloading Fusion 360
Thanks Steve. The only difference I can see is that i didnt sign in first. I will try again Trevor Well that was a wasted morning! I did get it installed but then I couldn't get it to take me back to the program after I had signed in. Either my computer is too slow, or the internet too slow - or bo...

Downloading Fusion 360
How do you actually download this software? I seem to have gone round the same loop again and again. It seems to want me to create an account and then to wait 30 minutes and then sign in and go to a page to get the download. That is as far as I get. Im never able to actually download anything. Or am...

I also use Vallejo paints, again, quite a collection. I use them for airbrushing as you rarely need to thin them down, but find they go on very very thin and take a lot of coats. Maybe a need a different airbrush for larger areas? Now, is it just me or does airbrushing Vallejo paints take AGES to d...

Re: Using TinkerCAD to produce drawings for 3-D Printing
I've had two goes at Fusion 360, yesterday and this morning, with no more success than I had a year or so ago, Fusion 360 is the gold standard for 3D CAD packages for home use, but it's a bit naïve to think that a program so incredibly powerful can be learnt in a couple of short sessions or just pl...

Brilliant.
And the instructions on how to add the bones are VERRY useful. Being able to do that has the potential to overcome the limitations of "Makehuman". I'm off to look for figures I can alter!

Re: Palmerston - Small England Loco as built
That seems to pull and push very well, have you added additional weights? No extra weights - it is just the weight of the resin prints which are quite thick. I have used 3mm thick panels for the removable body wherever the thickness is invisible, to try to minimise distortion. The battery pack is 5...

Re: The Railway in the Valley of the Mill
Individually pinning each chair into place would take longer, but from what you've said, it would give the required accuracy. I don't know the first thing about 3D printing, but I would've thought you'd be getting perfectly consistent chairs out of it. Well printing should give accurate r...

Re: Palmerston - Small England Loco as built
This is almost a finished locomotive now so I thought it was worth another photo and some video. So the photo first: IMG_3743.jpeg The painting is finished apart from the "No 4" which goes above the makers plate, and the Prince of Wales' feathers over the name. The crew are created using &...

I am hoping that by reducing the space between fixings the humps will become more of a minor ripple! Time will tell. Phil Phil I wonder if you are taking the right approach to the expansion. Could the problem have been made worse by the nails preventing the plastic from expanding? A clue might be t...

Re: The Railway in the Valley of the Mill
Are you going for 45mm gauge with this track? EDIT: Sorry, just realised the inner groove on the roller gauges is for the check/wing rails. Rik Yes that is correct - the only issue with the roller gauges is that the 16mm Association standards for wing rails are 3mm not 2.5mm - so that explains why ...

Re: The Railway in the Valley of the Mill
Making track again. I am experimenting with ways of fixing chairs to the sleepers. I know I can successfully print my own chairs in ABS - but the weak point is the printed 3mm "pin" which fits into the hole in the sleeper. The batches of chairs with the pins printed in position don't alway...

Is that Gorilla Glue between the sleepers and the trackbed? Ingenious idea for both levelling and for cushioning if so. Rik Yes -it certainly is. I use it a lot for all sorts of things. I like it being cured by dampness - really useful here. The only problem is getting it on my hands which I inevit...

After more weather related delays I have now laid the track to create a passing loop half way between the tunnel and the proposed terminus: IMG_3727.jpeg the retaining wall is also slowly advancing towards the greenhouse, 2 metres at a time: IMG_3728.jpeg I just wish we had some dryer weather! Re: The Railway in the Valley of the Mill
The first point is finished: IMG_3721.jpeg The rail is stainless apart from the point blades which are nickel silver, which is easier to solder reliably. I have used the same printed point lever I used the last time I made points. It seems to work and is quicker to make than the same made from brass...

Re: The Railway in the Valley of the Mill
I think I have enough sleepers to complete this section Phil - so no hurry for more sleepers. I have spent most of the day in the workshop hiding from the rain - and I have almost completed the first point. It is all working so far as intended, although I have not tried to drill the rail for the cha...
