Re: Roy Wood Models - end of the line?

I understand that the business was sold just before Christmas, but have to wait for the new owner to make the announcement once they have finalised the details. I'm assured that it is in good hands though.

Re: Garden Rail Magazine

I really do enjoy the articles in the magazine and I get generally a lot from it with ideas and help, also the way it is presented or is it the layout, is one that is expertly done. I will carry on reviewing the magazine has I see it and hopefully more subscribers will join us in enjoying the magaz...

Re: Garden Rail Magazine

Well I received my magazine this morning and again it's very thin. I have been told it's because of the situation we are in, at these COVID-19 times. I get other magazines, well Anne does with her BBC Gardeners World and that is still fairly thick and full of information for gardeners. I digress......

Re: Rolling Stock Storage Box

Of course. A nice job of the tray, is what I should've said. Aye, it's cutting multiple identical panels that's stopping me, too. I'm rubbish at cutting wood square so have found a few local places who will cut it to my requirements - to old fashioned hardware shops in local towns are happy to do t...

Re: Garden Rail Magazine

Does anyone know where I can buy a single printed copy? My daughter wants a copy and I can't find it in WH Smiths or Sainsbury's and when I look online I can only find subscriptions for a minimum of three months. I already subscribe to the digital edition and I got a free (hard) copy this month, bu...

Re: Garden Rail Magazine

Rik gave me a bit of a problem - lovely photos and a very enjoyable article. To fit the space, there needed to be some trimming but this means we can look forward to a separate piece on the traffic management system in the future. Incidentally, if anyone fancies waving a camera around their own layo...

Re: Garden Rail Magazine

Phil, please accept the comment in the light hearted manner in which it was intended. I am a massive fan of GR and appreciate the effort that goes in to what is probably considered a niche interest publication. You also missed the obvious irony of the typo in my own comment which I've only just not...

Re: Garden Rail Magazine

I wonder if Rik will be holding a ceremony to rename is line in readiness for September's issue. Clue: P47 of August's mag. I'm working on the article right now and will do my best to spell it properly this time! When I put that page together, we were in the middle of preparing the Virtual Show so ...

Re: Garden Rail Magazine

Pocketmags should enable you to buy one. New one today, lots of extra pictures! Really nice to see GR making more use of the technology. Thanks - It's a toe in the water for us. Sister magazine BRM goes further than pretty much any title from any publisher (including non-railway ones) with digital ...

Re: Garden Rail Magazine

Quick question re Garden Rail Magazine - is there anywhere online where I can purchase single issues, when I feel like buying a copy? You, know, like how you used to be able to buy magazines in Smiths(!). Plenty of websites offering subscription deals but haven't found anywhere that just sells copi...

Thanks. I'm lucky to have some excellent contributors.

July has just been signed off, and all the files are lined up for August. I need to start work on it ASAP!

Re: Garden Rail Magazine

When the Covid-19 stuff happened, lots of advertisers decided to hunker down and stop advertising - something that has happened to all the media causing some (non-railway) titles to stop publishing. Fortunately, there is no sign of that happening to GR at the moment. In fact, we've actually added a ...

Re: 2019 16mm Show

Where are those videos..!! I have only seen one that was sent to me by email from our area organiser and that is of the modular layout he has at our local shows. Try this one - https://youtu.be/qqapRNexydI - Laurie isn't a garden railway modeller so it's interesting to see what caught his eye. Apol...

Re: 2019 16mm Show

The only criticism is that you could not keep any of these layouts outdoors. That was the criticism that inspired the Garden Rail layout. I was Stewarding on Friday whilst Phil created it from scratch, and again after the show on Saturday when he tore it down. That's exactly the reason I volunteere...

Re: Great Model Railway Challenge - Ch5 tonight

I would like to make the point that being an editor of a magazine does not make you an authority or knowledgeable on the published subject. They may be employed simply for their skill at their job (yes I have known people who have been editors of publications with no knowledge or interest in what t...

Great British Bake Off for model trains. The recipe Appoint a panel of judges, only one of whom knows something about the topic; make sure there are some 'characters' in the teams; give the teams challenges which include a high probability of failure; edit the footage to include at least one tantru...

Most of the market is in 7mm and smaller figures, but if you drop Alan a line, he's one of the most helpful people you'll find. https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1901/43900219175_2764194751_o.jpg These are from an article Si (Model Earth) Harris wrote in the March issue of GR. Re: Figures

I've mentioned the figures look a bit modern to Bachmann in the past and it will be interesting to see if any older versions appear.

That said, a coat of paint could turn a hi-viz into a donkey jacket (if you have to look up what one of those is you are too young) so I'll have a go.
