Nothing to loose if the trick does not work. Max You think not, and if they explode, because something goes wrong, you will pay the compensation. I'm not quite sure what you are saying Jimmy. The advice came from here - https://www.brianjonesmodels.co.uk/ I can't see a maximum of 1 amp/12v for 30 s...

I suspect that the boat sailed long ago, but I have only just seen this. I have Halfway to Heaven and both Iron Sherpa volumes, if that is any help. No, you are not too late :) I have yet to start them. Pictures look very interesting and useful, thank you. At present I am planning to use a mixture ...

Re: Why do we do it?
By accident ! I was looking for an accessory, around 1:32 scale, to augment my scenic slot car layout. Well, GRS are not far away  And a "Warbonnet" USAT GP38-2 winked at me (ok 1:29 not 1:32). It was kept as a shelf queen for a year. Then I thought, I really need to get into sorting ...

Interesting. It seems a certain person has form dissing other forum members when they offer alternative opinions to their own firmly held ones. Could not help but notice one of their previous posts, from a year or so ago, where they stated they left another forum due to the overblown egos of those w...

Re: Book of 16mm Accucraft Rolling Stock drawings
Now Accucraft UK have decided that they will not be producing any more RTR rolling stock I am exploring the possibility of producing a book of the drawings that my late father, Donald Pearse, did for our Accucraft UK carriages and wagons. I have been asked many times about the possibility of supply...

Modified in that one l...

Re: O gauge track for 16mm?
The Lilla is 16mm scale and runs on 32mm track. That is classically defined as SM32 and is really all you need to think about, to begin with at least. However, unless you intend to model a specific narrow gauge prototype railway, many modellers will run almost anything that will run on SM32 track -...

Re: O gauge track for 16mm?
16 mm when used in the context of 32 mm gauge track is a scale - 16 mm to the foot. Hence a 16 m scale model of a loco that is prototypically (real life) run on a two ft gauge track will naturally be gauged at 32 mm to be true to scale. 2 ft = 16 mm x 2 = 32. Hence SM 32 = Sixteen Millimetre scale o...

Re: O gauge track for 16mm?
A thought has occurred to me, your Lilla loco can be set to either 32 mm or 45 mm gauge. Resetting the wheels' gauging is simplicity itself. The wheels are retained by grub screws and an Allen key and gauge setting template should have been included to do this, assuming you have bought it new. The b...

Re: O gauge track for 16mm?
The issue might be that the rail height used in O gauge applications is around 130 thou in height (refered to as "code" 130) whereas the shallowest rail used for 32 mm gauge/16 mm scale application, SM 32, is taller at 200 thou (code 200).250 thou, code 250, being the norm and up to 332 th...

Re: Operating a new Roundhouse Lady Anne
The only steam powered whistle I ever knew that worked, in both cold and warm conditions, was a factory fitted one on a Roundhouse Vale of Rheidol I once owned. Perhaps one should ask them how they did it. And perhaps why they no longer seemingly do. Bit left of field, some might even consider "...

Re: Operating a new Roundhouse Lady Anne
You are doing all the right things in the right order. A Lady Anne was my first engine 15 years ago. a very good starting point. I had the same experiences at the start. Finding the right setting for the gas can be a bit trial and error, as you have correctly surmised it is down to the load and terr...

Re: Sanding and Varnish for Wood
Nothing wrong with basswood. I have just been reading an article in the Narrow Gauge and Short Line Gazette where it is being used to build a box car, although in a smaller scale to 7/8"ths. Its fine grain may well make it ideal to represent "scale" wood grain in the built model you d...

Re: Sanding and Varnish for Wood
I usually start with 240 grit and finish with 400 to get the wood's initial surface down to something that will be smooth to the touch suitable to work from. Various types of abrasive sheet materials are available - they all work well. Assuming you are working on flat or single curvature surfaces mo...

Re: Best paint or other medium for real wood
If a natural wood appearance is what you want then wood stains every time, at least for me. Remember, always stain before any any other process, e.g. gluing, etc'. Obvious perhaps, but the stain won't soak in if anything else has got into the wood's grain. Then complete with a lacquer coat of the ty...

Vacuum pipes - Both following methods involve electrical shrink wrap. Either obtain a compression spring of the right diameter (soap pumps are a good source), cut to length and insert bent brass rod for shape and locating, then shrink the wrap over the spring.....or,,,,, use suitably sized long chip...
