Re: Wifi control with ESP8266
Good luck with your project. I started using Arduinos in my garden rail locos in 2013 and and moved to ESP8266s in 2018. I use the Wemos D1 mini rather than the basic ESPs like the ESP01 that you are using. They have more I/O ports, an analogue input which I use for battery voltage and are easier to...

Re: A Home Wi-Fi Connected Garden Railway
Very nice smooth operating. Are you operating both locos from the same controller :?: Great videos by the way :thumbright: :thumbright: Thanks Rod. I modified my remote control to send the same speed signal to both locos. Was rather pleased and surpised when it worked so well. My remote control has...

Re: A Home Wi-Fi Connected Garden Railway
It's been a while so I thought I would update this thread with the latest developments on my railway. My railway has expanded, and there are now 13 items controlled by ESP8266 and ESP32 processors. There are 7 locos (1 steam), 2 wagons (sound and location), a railway station (sound, lights and 6 poi...

Re: A Home Wi-Fi Connected Garden Railway
Yes Rod, a nice looking loco, Accucraft have done a good job. The electronics have been in the same position in my Lew, which has been running for 4 years. No problems with muck so far.

Re: A Home Wi-Fi Connected Garden Railway
Belated thanks to Greg for his comments. Here's an update. Thanks to Virgin Media there has been a change to the wi-fi system. After they dug up the road I waited a year before signing up but whilst the speed is fast the router is not very good. The original wi-fi was a repeater in the summerhouse b...

Re: Beeston Market Station forecourt/backscenes
I greatly admire all your modelling skills and the realistic scenes and enjoy viewing them but I'm dissapointed to find that some of the photos and videos are being, or will be, digitally enhanced. They are good enough without this and more natural for a railway that is in a garden. Please, no fake ...

Re: A simple change has made such a difference
An electrically operated roller shutter would be nice :D but I ended up using the piece I cutout. There is still a piece of wood missing, which is why there is that long gap at the bottom. Long story, the summerhouse was as far back as the fence but was being raised 6" by the tree roots, moved ...

A simple change has made such a difference
or "Why didn't think of this before"... I've just realised that I have probably ran my trains more times this year than the total of all previous 8 years since I started my garden railway. Whilst it has something to do with an extension I carried out over the winter and the 'infamous' besp...

Nice to see a DCC system here, thanks for sharing. Looks like a lot of track to keep clean!

Re: Picaxe servo control
Philip A standard servo has 3 wires, 0v, 5v and signal. The power required by the servo comes through the 5 volt line not the signal. The signal line can be driven directly via the GPIO of a Raspberry pi, Arduino or ESP8266 so I assume it is the same for a Picaxe. If you are using the darlington dri...

Re: Picaxe servo control

I think the Picaxe experts will ask for a circuit diagram or sketch. I run my servos direct from the Arduino/ ESP8266 GPIO lines, so not sure why you need a darlinton drive?
Michael.

A big like from me. Could you please tell me how easy it would be to change the gauge to 45mm? Thanks.

Sorry, I can't be much help as I haven't used a Picaxe before but can't you use the servo function? Looks much simpler.

Thanks Philip. That means for completion I can attach an image from their website which is the same as in the book. From their website, for copyright, I have to include the following link.

Re: Lynton & Barnstaple Railway - Rolle Quay coaling siding.
In the book "L&B Journey Barnstaple to Lynton and back", there is a picture from a 25in to the mile map of Barnstaple published by the Ordnance Survey in 1932 showing what looks like a railway track running by Rolle Quay on the other side of the River Yeo to the L&B track. There ar...

Binnie Engineering don't have a website but you can find their details on the Summerlands Chuffer website.

Have recently ordered from him using the email address so it is valid.

Re: Building a radio controlled (electric) traction engine
I had a similar problem recently, the DFPlayer sound card I was playing with interfered with another 5 volt circuit (not the processor). I solved it as you with a schottky diode and capacitor. I also changed the layout to ensure the 0v and 5v lines of the offending device went directly to the regula...
