Re: Semi-scale BR: low cost tank wagon

Thank you all. Well, it’s a German narrow gauge wagon (with a couple of bits chopped off) turned out, you know, in a reasonable approximation of a 1950s British Railways livery. You could do more but, hmmm... diminishing returns and all that. And I am a bit lazy. But it does the job - so on to the n...

Semi-scale BR: low cost tank wagon

1. Purchase cheapo (£17.95) Newqida copy of LGB, German narrow gauge, tank wagon 2. Disassemble 3. Secure the 12 small screws in labelled, sealed envelope and place on mantelpiece (or similar, highly visible, memorable location) 4. Apply Wilco (or Poundland) spray paint to all parts. Leave overnight...

Thanks. Yeah, me too.

Bright and sunny today, so I'm obliged to make a start on tidying up the garden...

Forgot the buckets. Haven't really 'integrated the railway into the landscape', which makes it a bit awkward

Re: Semi-scale BR: signalbox

"...pick out the stones in various shades, and/or add a mortar colour" That’s a good idea. Unfortunately the styrene ‘stone’ sheet I’ve used doesn’t have quite the same sort of regular pattern as the ‘rough finish’ (don’t know the correct term, image below) Purbeck stone buildings I was attempting ...

After a week or two trying to figure out exactly what it was that was making me unhappy with it, I decided it was the windows...

Jackson’s Miniatures answered my enquiry regarding the purchase of alternative, six-pane, window mouldings by sending me some free! Much better, I reckon.

Re: Semi-scale BR: signalbox

Grant - Thank you. Fire buckets (and lots of other useful stuff) are from GRSUK.com, though I recognise that might not be especially convenient for you in Oz.

Cheers. Tube and half-round strip found among the piles of offcuts at the bottom of the plasticard box. I had bought some especially but I got my sums wrong and it looked way too big…

Semi-scale BR: signalbox

My first go at doing a building and I took the easy route, as it’s from a Jackson’s Miniatures kit. It’s foamboard, helped along with textured styrene sheets (also from them), a few other embellishments and rather expensive (compared with Wilko) Southern Region colours from Phoenix paints. I’ve made...

Re: Semi-scale BR: Strictly Bulleid*

"...I wondered if it was too small" I’ve just been Googling: as you say, Hornby’s site says Gauge 1 but Lionel (the US manufacturer) appear to suggest on their (hopelessly ambiguous) website that it’s 1:24 ‘scale’ though they won't actually admit to what the gauge might be. I read elsewhere that th...

Re: Semi-scale BR: Strictly Bulleid*

"...I guess you've seen that Hornby have moved up a scale or two..." And thanks very much for your take on the website. Like the videos, not to be taken at all seriously – but fun to do. I think. My last 'YouTube Thumbnail' posting may have been clumsily worded and appeared a bit snotty (I've subse...

Re: Semi-scale BR: Strictly Bulleid*

"Always keen to see new developments on your line..." That’s very kind of you. Thanks. I’m afraid I seem to be getting increasingly swamped with grown up responsibilities right now, you know – work, kids, endless DIY home maintenance horror... But my notebook is filling up with ridiculous garden ra...

Oh dear. Dropped by a further 25 per cent!

Re: (WH)WHR Buildings

Cheers Andrew. I was encouraged to have a first go at building a building by some of your earlier stuff, so thank you. And yes, I’ve splashed out on authentic SR colours.

The ‘1/24 scale finials’ come from ‘sanddmodels.co.uk’ at £1.50 for a pair. I’ll have to get some more...

Re: (WH)WHR Buildings

Wow! This is spooky. Clearly I’m ripping off Andrew here… or perhaps we’ve just been doing the same image searches. Anyway, I’ve cheated and mine's from a kit (Jackson’s Miniatures) though I’ve been attempting to embellish it a bit. And I have a real cat that will come and sit on it. signalbox_1A.jpg
