Re: Talyllyn Railway
Hi Andrew. Thanks for the feedback. I thought it might actually have some merit given that the pre-90s cab was given Lowca style lining and that it would naturally postdate the weatherboard photo and also predate the derailment that cabbed Dolgoch is believed to of been involved in but the lack of ...

Re: Talyllyn Railway
Does anyone know how I can get in contact with author Bernard Rockett? Reading 'The Old Tal-y-llyn' book from his 16mm scale drawing series he gives a c1878 date for Talyllyn returning to Whitehaven but I can't recall any other book suggesting this and am curious to know where the footnote was pulle...

Re: soldering brass bodywork
Working on a project my old fibreglass / glassfibre / scratch pens finally ran out and so naturally bought some refills of eBay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/A-set-of-three-Fibre-Glass-Bristles-for-coin-cleaning-4mm-size-standard-brush/233018985234?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2...

Re: Thomas the Tank Engine
Ah haven't read the new issue yet but good to know :) Now if we can just get Bachmann to release a G version of their red brake coach, sure it and some red Emily coach bodies would sell nicely enough and poor James does needs a passenger rake to pull instead of orrible trucks :D On a side note start...

Re: Can anybody link me to 1mm copper snap head rivets please
Um yep it's one of PDF's Talyllyn/Dolgoch designs so purely cosmetic detailing. Afraid i'm not following what you mentioned about the rivet head becoming flattened though, the pics of the TR engines doesn't show up any flatness to the rivet heads if that's what you mean (cosmetic as they still are f...

Re: Thomas the Tank Engine
I wonder if the cost of the licence has got a bit high That's pretty much what the GRS said at their Llanfair stand when I was trying to enquire further. Still haven't read anything on this from any other source so i'm not entirely sure if such a licence hiatus would apply to the G range only, the ...

Re: Can anybody link me to 1mm copper snap head rivets please.
I ordered some brass snap head rivets from Noggin End Metals the other day and they came fast. Looking at the three sizes (1/32", 3/64" and 1/16") in the flesh they're perfick for my detailing needs, https://i.imgur.com/8a9bhI5.jpg and they also do them in copper as well, though not a...

Oooh didn't know it had happened since, is it still possible with the current braking system? Either way good to know and thanks for the link Rik, a few nice anecdotes on there

Re: Slip coach
On the R&ER of old there was a bit of coach slipping. Not sure sure of the details exactly and no doubt it lacked the dynamism of the GWR operations but it's passingly mentioned in one or two books, assume the coaches were hand shunted onto a near by siding and picked up again later in the day.

Re: Thomas the Tank Engine
On the back of Garden Rail magazine a GRS advert stated that Bachmann were discontinuing the G range (UK only?). Quite surprised by this as Hornby have only just given up it's OO licence but looking elsewhere online I can't seem to find anything on this rude surprise. I know the G Diesel announcemen...

Re: Skarloey Railway dabbling
Sorry for the delay but hey up. I'm afraid I have no experience with Halfords aerosols to date but I keep hearing good things about them for the larger scales. Simon Atkinson's 1:15 Douglas shown in issue 288 of 'Garden Rail' for example does look most impressive and I get they're more economical th...

Re: Coupling chains
Would some type of paint stripper be strong enough to start off the braking down process? Regarding breakages i've not had a problem yet but in fairness haven't exactly had much linked up at a time. Can't take the credit for the idea but what I do now is rather than bend my own or cut one link up in...

Spray cans of paint are an invention of the devil......... I'm intrigued by that statement, Graeme. Mick Bonwick putting his fingers into a holy cross when I mentioned aerosols at the Pendon will always tickle me :D I highly recommend the day courses to anyone afraid to commit to an airbrush...

Re: airbrush
I'm looking to buy an airbrush set at last as spray cans are proving a bit of a black hole since moving up to 16mm and G3, plus getting the shade you want isn't always easy. Anywho most people seem happy enough with Badgers over Neo and the like from what i've gathered around the forums. I recall th...

Re: Help with track
Hi Jack. SM32 is 32mm gauge as you've mentioned. I'm pretty new to the 'garden scales' too but PECO, The GRS, Tenmille and Cliff Barker are the main suppliers that i'm aware of. PECO's set tack is a little pricey per yard but is easy to clip together as it's basically the same as their OO range and ...

Re: Skarloey Railway dabbling
I see and it seems to be similar with the German stuff I've been eyeing up on eBay as well. Oh well, still good to know either way so thanks for the info Graeme. I'm planning to pick up a Macaw H bolster kit from Walsall Model Industries at Guildex which should be helpful for any future G3 mash ups ...

Re: Skarloey Railway dabbling
Looking very effective Dwayne :thumbright: The treated look though is a bit posh for the Skarloey/Talyllyn in its run down era. I very much assume the mix won't take on plastic sleepers but I'll keep it in mind if I do any other stretches of the SR post 50's or one of Sodor's standard gauge lines un...

Re: Skarloey Railway dabbling
Hah funny enough i've got two soaking in vinegar now since lurking about on Google over dinner but looking at the testers currently it seems they'll be quite a light brown. Regarding the wire wool do you mean for scumbleling it as it comes out of the solution or chucking it in strait away to dirty t...
