Re: Smokey Sophie - A Roundhouse/Riverdale Amy coal fire build

Looks much better, well done. I reckon I am going to do the same to my loco
I used 10BA studs and nuts for the steam chests and I wish I had done this for the cylinder covers, next time.

Re: Smokey Sophie - A Roundhouse/Riverdale Amy coal fire build

Stunning work on the cylinder end caps Tom. That makes a huge difference. Ideally, using studding and nuts would look better but as yet I have not managed to source scale looking metric nuts to suit. Small sizes, no problem. I have had good service from here https://knupfer.info/shop/index.php/deut...

How exciting that must be for you. Well done- a real accomplishment!

Thanks Keith. My smile confirms my enjoyment. I still have a long way to go before I am ready to be assessed and passed out, but I am on the way.

Re: Llewellyn Loco Works #1

No little loco work for some time, but I am trying to get the signalling progressing for the POR however my crew training at the Mary Valley Rattler is absorbing a lot of spare time and my weekends so the S and T work is slow. Last Friday, I gave the fireman's side of #974 a good going over while l...

Re: RH Double Fairlie

The cost is what it is, it what it has to be. Roundhouse is not a charity, they pay their workers, holidays, sick leave, etc. They have to send their kids to school. They have to devote time and a profit % to new product development or perish, they store stock, they give customer service, it is a p...

Very well thought out production line there Dazza.
I think I have you fooled, I am just winging it as I listen to the Indian batsman wear down out bowlers who insist in bowling too short and wide and our 20 -20 batsman who cannot occupy the crease and ...............................

Re: bambuko loco works 0-6-2 (Fowler)

I have been pondering the fabrication of my smoke box, you have given me some leads and ideas.
I reckon I will use silver brazing (56% Harris, I use it daily in my work) for my fabrications.

Looks like you'll have reet proper grand signalling there! I do like that MVR loco. Is RM76 still in serivice? Thanks, with a simple unhook of two points the lever frames are off line and one can can run non stop while sipping red wine :-) I had hoped to have the signalling installed by now, but I ...

Re: Llewellyn Loco Works #1

Not sure why if I have ever driven a real train is relevant here? I haven't, and the prototype doesn't interest me as I just like running model trains outside. The one preservation group I did apporach was very clicky. My point was that your life cannot be that hectic where you cannot find a hour t...

Re: Llewellyn Loco Works #1

Tom, I presume you've never been on the footplate of a standard gauge steam loco to understand how fantastic an experience it is? I'm not sure about Dazza's railway but from my experience most turns are rostered so Dazza probably has to turn up. I'm sure he does so willingly and enthusiastically. I...
