Re: Nolwyn Valley Tramway

Meanwhile inside the shop there's been a ban on new stock, to focus on the outside effort. Despite this somebody managed to sneak in a new coal wagon. Still needs some paint, details, weathering, and weight, but here's an in-progress pic: Screenshot_20231015-004715__01.jpg This is from Red Star's d...

Re: Tan-y-Grisiau Station Building

Hmmm, that seems like a fairly simple solution to implement. I'll start off with a few small parts to test first - with small things it used to be hit and miss, even the same file would sometimes work then fail the next time :dontknow: .

Re: Tan-y-Grisiau Station Building

Wow! That's quite a build, look forward to seeing the pictures when it's fitted in place. I'm thinking of having another go with ABS (after several years avoiding it) to print out one of the quarry workers cottages later this year - I'll bear in mind your comment about the print cooling too quickly ...

Re: Lettering for railways

I've found it a very cost effective way of lettering an engine Bryan, and as you've said, it's ok on steam locos as long as it's not directly on the boiler. And not just lettering, I also cut out some sets of BR double arrows! Was intended as a temporary measure until I could afford to get a proper ...

Re: Bargain for Resin and PLA+ @ Amazon

My filament and resin arrived within two days. Not sure why I qualified for free postage, normally you have to spend £20+ to get it - unless it's because the pre-order price exceeded £20?? Rik Yeah it probably is, I chose the free postage option as well (didn't mind waiting a few extra days for it ...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

This'll look fantastic as part of your WHR trains. For lettering I lightly mark the outlines in pencil then paint as well - when I did my standard gauge PO wagon it was very much a case of "right I've started, might as well commit to finishing". Still need to letter my FR coal wagon... And...

Re: Bargain for Resin and PLA+ @ Amazon

I took the plunge and ordered a reel of black filament (as I had conveniently run out of black). I've never done any resin printing before, but my old uni where I still go to do some laser cutting has a small resin printer in the lab, so I'll be giving it a try. I've drawn out a few wagon plates for...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

I like the coal wagon Andrew, I guessimated the dimensions for it as well when I did the 3D printed one - not quite right the first time (too narrow for a start), and then redrew it to try and get it a bit more like the prototype. There was a few bits in one of the Ffestiniog moving pictures (numbe...

Re: Roundhouse Atlantic
Glad you got it sorted. My carefully considered diagnosis, based on the photo, was going to be that the smokebox door was fine. It was the loco which was wonky ..... :dontknow:  Rik
Sorry for the late reply, just the cameraman taking photos from a dodgy angle (!) making it loo...

Re: Roundhouse Atlantic

Thanks for that Aaron - I'll avoid that then. Seemed to stay on fine when running yesterday so for the time I'll leave it as is, but if it starts to move round a bit then I'll go for the paint option

Re: Roundhouse Atlantic

The loco was fine (maybe a slight scuff of paint at most) - only a snapped coupling on one of the wagons. The smokebox door was like that before - I just put up with it for a bit. After someone else had had a run, I gave the loco a run just to use up the remaining gas onboard (after checking there w...

Re: Roundhouse Atlantic

Managed to get the front off and now it's back in place and not sitting at an angle. Like Keith said, I had a go at prying it off gently - it's just a push fit into the smokebox (a bit like the Accucraft Ruby). Might take it back off and put a bit of PTFE tape around, as I was a bit shocked at how e...

I've got a Roundhouse Atlantic, but the smokebox front is a little bit wonky. How would this be sorted out? Hopefully the attached picture shows what I mean by wonky....

Re: Why do we do it?

Been lured to trains, both model and full size, since day one I suppose (Michael Angelis and Ringo Starr have a lot to answer for), and there was a garden centre nearby which had a railway setup inside (I know now that it was LGB and some Bachmann equipment) - I think it was the size of the models a...

Re: Llangollen Festival

I also enjoyed yesterday - was a long journey down from Glasgow and back in the same day, but well worth it even if the steam loco I brought along for running didn't want to play. Had a good catch up with many people, even by chance bumping into someone on the bus from Ruabon and was able to put a f...

Re: Which FDM printer?

I currently have a Flashforge Finder - nothing bad to say about it, other than a limited print size. It's designed to only take 0.5kg reels, but I've printed out a side mount for 1kg reels so I'm not limited to buying only the Flashforge ones. I've also in the past used various Makerbot machines - t...

Re: 3D printed Welsh wagons

Now finished a dandy wagon - this uses some parts drawn by Trevor Thompson from the files section. I stitched the front (horse head) end and side stls together to print as one piece, but drew up a new chassis as I preferred to use a one piece chassis as on the slate wagons (no risk of axleboxes fall...

Re: 3D printed Welsh wagons

Thanks Andrew, I did notice that, and wondered if the timing was a bit awkward? They look more accurate , but in reality it's just the same dimensions as the slate wagon  Mind you, if you need more Croesor wagons in future you can print a fleet :P The embankment was based on an idea in 16mm tod...

3D printed Welsh wagons

Been playing around with a few designs for small 3D printed wagons for a bit now, and thought I'd showcase these. The stls are in the files section for anyone wanting to have a go at them. The 2 ton slate wagon stemmed from the local group trying to run long slate trains behind one members double Fa...
