I do love your trackwork. Smooth lines and very realistic.

Re: A Ruston-ish ....
Good chunky metal gears, as well.. The only downside of a bevel-gear final-drive, is it is usually 1:1, so you need to be sure you motor /gearbox gives you the ratio you need. How noisy, is this arrangement, Rik? Phil.P Surprisingly quiet for metal on metal gears. I'll make a video later (once I've...

Re: A Ruston-ish ....
What is the motor Rik? I've seen ones that look like that but never been sure if they were any good, and as with all these Chinese motors there are varying voltages, ratio's, etc. Hi Philip The one I've used on these chassis is the 12v GA25-370 motor (170RPM). They're around £4GBP from Ali Express ...

Another Ruston-ish (Proctor)
I mentioned in my other Ruston-ish thread, I was working on another Ruston. It's actually their Ruston Proctor. I struggled to find a drawing and so was about to base it on photos when I came across a download of a Gn15 body on Shapeways for £20. I've never used Shapeways so thought I'd give it a tr...

Re: A Ruston-ish ....
It's been a while. I have been busy with this, honest! I wasn't at all happy with the HGLW chassis. Nothing wrong with the chassis per se, it just didn't look right with the Ruston. And so, the time has been spent in perfecting my own powered chassis. I've not altered the dimensions of the body (whi...

Re: Bachmann Lyn cab removal
Hello again, Thanks for all your replies. I actually managed to remove the doors, sliding windows and respray the roof without having to remove the body or cab. It's a second hand loco I have just bought, and has been converted to battery power (contained in a 'box-car' wagon). I am in the process ...

I echo Peter's comment. The models produced by PDF were innovative and beautifully engineered. I do hope someone with the right expertise, experience and motivation takes it over. Not just for Leanne's sake but also for the hobby in general

RikThe cab is held on with four plastic clips, which need pushing inwards; the cab then lifts off. The cab can be removed without taking the boiler off the motor block.

Re: The Railway in the Valley of the Mill
Trevor your explanations are so good I'm almost tempted to try building points in this scale myself... (I've soldered together points in 4mm and 7mm scale but nothing as elegant or as robust looking as these!) Meanwhile - some video from our running session 3 weeks ago . Mostly of Moel Rhos stock, ...

Re: Bachmann Lyn cab removal
Mine was the early version with the plastic motor block. I'm not sure if they changed the body on the newer version or kept it the same.
I have a feeling I had to take the whole body off before the cab could be split from the boiler - but it was a while ago.

Re: Bachmann Lyn cab removal
Hi Guys, Just wondering how easy it is to get the cab off Lyn ? Has anyone done it without breaking anything ? I need to repaint the (red) cab roof/windows and remove the doors. TIA. Andy Hi Andy I have done it and normally I'd take step by step photos for my blog, but it looks like I didn't for th...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?
I was going to say 32 Rik This was not intended to be a trick question, but Rik's answer has made me think about the wording more carefully. The question referred to battery powered locos, of which there are 32 with built-in battery packs, however, two others need an external supply (trailing van w...

I think you mean "Airfix" Peter. They're unfortunately no longer produced, but I managed to track down a kit and 'converted' it into a horizontal steam engine for my sawmill. IMG_7598.JPG https://riksrailway.blogspot.com/2018/06/how-i-detailed-interior-of-my-sawmill.html?m=1 Rik PS Your sc...

Re: Film photo
By coincidence, I'm selling a 35mm SLR for my brother. In its day, his Olympus OM1N was supposed to be a leading camera in its field. Within 30 mins of putting it on eBay it attracted two bids raising it from £30 to nearly £60. There still seems to be a lot of interest in film cameras these days.
