Re: Wifi control with ESP8266
I'm definetly following this as I'd really like to use ESP to control my diesel loco I'm planning.

Re: TVT - Dylanesque
No back story for this one yet. Before the monkey gallery gets too excited about the name, it has no connection to blue locos, it's an old family name. I'm the sixth generation in Aust., the eighth is currently in high school. Regards, Graeme I'd rather assumed that it was a clever reference to Dyl...

Nice work!
I'm currently working on a similar project. What size are the LED's that you've used?

Re: "Calloway", a Roundhouse Bundaberg Fowler Rebuild
This looks superb! I'm thinking of finally finishing my Roundhouse Lady Anne. The lack of chassis detail has always bothered me so I'll be pay homage to the work you've done on Calloway by adding rivets and ashpan detail... I'm also thinking of using axle bearings instead of the bronze bushes, what ...

Re: Which FDM printer?
I'm assuming that you've enabled SSH as you're getting as far as entering a password. Not sure if this will be of any help but it seems that you can stick a text file on the SD card with a new password. https://community.octoprint.org/t/forgotten-username-and-password-to-ssh-into-pi/8839/11 Might ge...

Re: Hiding 45mm track.
I know what you mean slick33. A lot of 45mm gauge lines look like the track is made from RSJs rather than rail!! LGB is code 332 rail (0.332 inches high) I'm starting work on a 45mm gauge line to vaguely represent 3ft gauge semi based on the Kettering Iron Stone railways but with a bit of artistic l...

Re: Which FDM printer?
Slightly different question - does anyone know if the red light in the BLTouch serves any useful purpose, and is there any way to turn it off? It's blinding my camera. Useful status indicator, stick some white insulating tape over it you'll still see the LED but it's less like to blow out the image...

Funny I've not had problems yet with "yanking " the power on a pi rather than shutting it down... I must have got lucky so far :o https://www.amazon.co.uk/PortaPow-USB-Power-Blocker-Cased/dp/B094FYL9QT/ref=asc_df_B094FYL9QT/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=535908584282&hv...

Re: Which FDM printer?
Just a word of caution re PSU's
The Pi 3B+ is USB Micro, the Pi 4 is USB C
If you get the 5.1V 3A from PiHut make sure you get a C to Micro adapter at the same time

For anyone that is also thinking of setting up Octoprint/Octopi for the first time, I can't recommend this YouTube tutorial by Thomas Sanladerer highly enough.

Re: Which FDM printer?
A Pi3 model A doesn't have ethernet capability, so if you're happy with WiFi it will be more than adequate, compared to older models. Make sure you get a good power supply - they stock the pi brand powerbrick - many issues with pi's are due to inadequate power. Thanks Phil. I don't use ethernet any...

Re: Which FDM printer?
Good luck with finding a Pi right now most of them are out of stock!! Let me know if you get really stuck, I might have a Pi3B+ that I can liberate and let you have for half price if that helps. I've very successfully used one for running Octoprint. I'd definitely always advocate having a li...

Re: Which FDM printer?
If you can stomach the price I'd go for a Prusa i3, it will just work really well from the get go and is built with some half decent components and a decent extruder To be honest my one obsession with the cheaper printers is to upgrade the hotend package from stock something like an E3Dv6. I helped ...
