While that is generally true, there are a lot of locos that used vacuum on the loco and had no steam brake. This arrangement was used on the standard gauge by some GWR (all?) and LNER locos, and is also used on NGG16 Garratts.
and some southern locos i.e the Lord Nelson class and the schools class

Better still Triple headed, with all the successful replicas that have come out of Boston Lodge recently and of course Tornado we could build 30586 again ! you could even use some of 30586's original parts for instance i believe 30585 is carrying the dome cover from 30586 as well as a few other bit...

HS2 = wast of money

it wont earn back the money invested
it will cost a lot more than has been said
the track bed will be about 50 meters from by back garden

edit: having just had a look at the posted link i now realise some ones taking the mickey :roll:

sorry to hear about your loss don't give in to them. Personally id be going out on a vengeance mission :twisted: thank goodness i live with someone who would stop me from doing such things ;) id recommend getting some cctv cameras fitted even if they are fake ones, it may well make the b*****ds thin...

As one of the railway magazines once pointed out, it's an absolubte scandal that she's rusting away outside when there is enough room in the building for her... tell me about it me and my dad put an offer in for the pair of them last year but no one is sure who owns them so they ...

congratulations on passing out as a fireman. I remember the day i passed out on the Severn valley, all the early mornings suddenly seem worth it ;) although i must say ever since i passed out i haven'd done done many turns on the SVR possibly something to do with sailing round the worlds oceans:lol:...

how olds the Mamod if it was built before 1992 the paint could contain lead if it was built after 1992 the paint should be lead free.

sounds like a lead based paint to me...:? might be worth trying some industrial paint stripper on it?
