Re: Deltang Tx22 problems and solution
Interference issues: 1. Servos tend to be things like trapped wires, on metal bodied loco's. 2. There are some really dreadful small electric motors out there.. Electrical noise from the motor can get back into the speed control, and confuddle it. A ferrite on the motor leads, and a couple of 0.1uF...

Re: Deltang Tx22 problems and solution
A couple of weeks ago I started to have problems with my Deltang Tx22 and the Rx's not finding each other when I switched on and had to keep rebinding each time. Eventually I worked out that although I could switch the loco's on and off without affecting the binding, as soon as I switched the Tx of...

Re: Pen-Y-Bont A new portable garden layout
It survived the summer much better than this winter, but I think it will recover, by 10th March??? It is easy enough to replace any plants that are past their best. Time will tell, but as in the real world, gardens are not their best before Spring gets well under way. Each month that passes changes ...

Re: Pen-Y-Bont A new portable garden layout
Well first we had the bitter cold and frosts before Christmas and then rain almost everyday since so the layout has taken a bit of a battering. Today found that the birds had been having a fine old time ripping up the moss and other vegetation looking for food. Oh well, it's still two months to go b...

Re: Pen-Y-Bont A new portable garden layout
Yep, it lives outside in the garden all year round, set up as you see in the pictures. It's had a couple of years now to develop so its been through about eight seasons of weather from ice & snow, frost, torrential downpours and long hot spells. Some alpines have not done so well and others have...

Re: Pen-Y-Bont A new portable garden layout
Thanks for all the compliments. The layout continues to evolve as the alpines grow and spread so I thought I would add a couple more photos of them as this layout is all about the plants.

Re: Pen-Y-Bont A new portable garden layout
Well it all went back together again in one piece and with no damage. I had to tweak the return track to fix a slight mis-alignment and had to slightly enlarge the openings in the back scene to allow for the locos being on a curve as they go through Setup in Fawley museum: . Re: Pen-Y-Bont A new portable garden layout
First time in months, I split the layout and loaded it in to my van for transporting to Fawley Hill where I set it up for a trial exhibition outing It survived the ordeal, pot holes, speed bumps and roundabouts etc. I used my Hambleden rack, reconfigured for wider boards and used 20mm steel conduit ...

Re: Roundhouse Katie Kit build
I built one of these some time ago. It's very easy and straightforward except for one small detail. The return crank needs to be set at 45 deg and then pinned in position. I wasn't brave emough at first to drill and pin the crank pin so just relied on doing up the clamp screw as tight as possible. A...

Hambleden Extension into garden
I occasionally setup my Hambleden Valley layout in the garden and eventually got round to connecting it to the rest of the garden via an LGB girder bridge allowing trains to pass between the two. Here are a couple of videos that have been on youtube for a while so my apologies if you have already se...

Re: Pen-Y-Bont A new portable garden layout
it was a few years ago now, but yes, that will do the job. Just dissolve a spoon full of the stuff in a jar of water to make up a light blue solution and then wash over the rusted vehicle. To apply the rust powder, I very lightly spray the vehicle with 3M photomount adhesive to create a tacky surfac...

Re: Pen-Y-Bont A new portable garden layout
Hi Rik yes, I've used scenic rust in the past and it is expensive and looking at the colour of their activator, I woud say it was dilute copper sulphate. I bought a large bag of rust powder and copper sulphate from amazon for next to nothing and it has lasted me for years and I've never needed to bu...

Re: Pen-Y-Bont A new portable garden layout
I get mine from Amazon, you can get a large bag of crystals for about £6 I don't find vinegar acidic enough, although I am told drain unblocker works better.

Re: Pen-Y-Bont A new portable garden layout
Thanks for the nice comments guys, I wanted to go for something different and didn't want to make another Hambleden or lose its scenic qualities. I will run the live steam locos with their slomos so no high speed running involved, but also have a couple of RC battery locos to fit the Welsh slate sce...

some more rusty wagons. Hard to believe these are plastic or shiny brass kits. I just love rust powder.

Re: Radio Controled Summerlands FX Chuffer
There are lots of wire-in-tube suppliers for use as a points control system. Ideally the operating wire needs connecting to the regulator servo/operatinmg arm. That way, the hole will close whilst accelerating making a loud chuff and then open when slowing down, reducingthe chuff. I have seen wire i...

Re: Radio Controled Summerlands FX Chuffer
Thanks pretty much how I imagined it. I don't know if you need a cone, maybe just a flat disc that sits on top of the chuffer, I don't think the seal is particularly important. Just need to experiment with a spare chuffer I think. Siting the servo could be a bigger problem. The bottom of the smoke b...

Re: Pen-Y-Bont A new portable garden layout
Thanks Guys This project is still very much work in progress. I have yet to finalise how I will operate it, but I guess it will not be quite as interesting as shinting on Hambleden. I am going to run a mix of live steam and battery powered locos. They will be able to pass in the station and potentia...
