Lewin 0-4-2t in 16mm

Some time ago I came across a very interesting class of engine built in the 1860s-70s by Stephen Lewin of Poole ./myff/2051309/IMG_20170101_170627.jpg (Sorry about the picture, it was the best (actually the only) one I could find) They were evidently intended for gauges between about 3' to 3'6"...

To avoid loosing nuts and bolts entirely, why not make a wagon fitted up with magnets, so as to collect up ferrous metal fixings?  ;) That's a genius idea! :) ;) thanks James! Of coures, it also means you'll be picking up nuts and bolts from other peoples rolling stock also, but better than fixings...

If one put two horizontal, front facing cylinders on a cracker, one would come up with something like John Smith's 'Lion' http://www.historywebsite.co.uk/Museum/Transport/Trains/Smith/JohnSmith5.htm Another design suggested by Peter Jones, however, I think it would do well as a narrow gauge loco wit...

The plot thickens - Seems to be the result of the article by vernon sparrow in the August 1981 issue of railway modeller, his engine 'Pim', quite a well executed example too, but not my style of loco either, however, for such an uncommon loco, I think somebody got a good deal at £99

It 's a fine loco to be sure, but what makes it "better" than the lady Anne? I don't know much about them I should say. Its a matter of taste of course, but heres my two cents: The major had full valve gear and gas firing before the lady anne The majors had r/c as standard, and I'm not su...

A very fine loco indeed, but ultimately outlasted by roundhouse with their lady anne, just goes to show the better loco dosen't always win outright

I wonder how many engines mr Cooper turned out of the merlin loco works, I have yet to see a works number above the 600s, which is still more than twice as many as George England ever made

This is one of the reasons why I find 16mm live steam (well all steam really but in my case 16mm) so pleasant, the people are so nice and extremely hospitable and helpful, open days really characterise that methinks  :D

Interesting to hear the connection to merlin, it is a very pretty little loco, pity they never got into full scale production, wouldn't mind one myself! :love10: glad to hear the real one is still with us, hopefully there is some possibility of a restoration in future years

 that is just gorgeous!  :D well worth the fettling and tinkering to get such a joy working! Would be great to see these run under their own steam, I do beleive Tom Cooper of merlin models had planned a very attractive colonial 4-4-0 very like that one which evidently never reached production...
