Never thought I'd see something like this.
Not far off that "strategic steam reserves" myth.

You must have missed the original thread, which did wander a bit. :D https://www.gardenrails.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=14528&p=176056#p176056 Oh, now I remember - colander brain strikes again. Well technically I think it's a rail traction engine. I'm pretty sure that's what Aaron meant. ...

Never would've imagined a traction engine, you don't see many around. That'll be a really interesting project.

Re: 7/8 Scale Model of a 1/2 Scale Model Boiler?
You're gonna need something bigger if you want it to work. As I mentioned in your intro thread, your best bet would be a cheap used "toy" steam engine as a donor. Every critical part is already made and works. You could build something like this, but with the boiler mounted transversely. https://gar...

Judging by the not-black smokebox door, maybe something pre-Victorian?
Far as bodges go, that penny doesn't seem half terrible..
Looking forward to seeing what's next.

Re: Another Fowler rebuild at Scum Class Works
Too soon to say, but the layout situation may just change in the next year or two.. 8) 15/11/23 A suitably-short driver has been painted, along with a whitemetal spanner, oil tin and the customary water bag. Wasn't happy with the bag, some further work got it sorted. https://i.postimg.cc/Z5XZYHFr/IM...

Bit late to the party here, but to say you've outdone the commercial larger-scale offerings at so little expense, is quite impressive.

Lots of developments, that's for sure. Love the new rollingstock, and I'm glad to hear you've finally got a kettle that works.

Re: Simplex Yard Shunter
You definitely need to add 4WD, otherwise it's "stationary rice puddings" and all that. My Malcolm Moore uses a very similar IP chassis. (same wheelsets, bearings, motor and gearing, besides the extra 1:1 jackshaft of the Simplex) It will comfortably move what the prototype might be expected to drag...

I like your ingenuity!
It's just as well you had the pipe venting the steam - if that boiler were sealed, pressure would've built up and you'd have a shrapnel bomb on your hands! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0R348vGkjyw

Another shop started, this time a rather large butcher. This one incorporates more "firsts" for me: Individually-spaced slats on the awning ends. A "concrete" foamboard slab at the front was made by cutting "chips" away from the outer edges and a texture was made in the top with a hard, dry clump of ...

Simplex Yard Shunter
An unexpected spare week with nothing to do for the first time in years - and bored out of my mind - had me pulling out anything to fill in the time. Worked on five different projects (starting three of them) over less than a week. Didn't finish anything, I usually work in bursts. An IP Eng. Simplex...

I've been meaning for quite some time, to start a general sugar mill rollingstock thread, akin to Andrew's wonderful (WH)WHR Rolling Stock . Plan is to cover various wagonry development here in future. Locos will retain their own threads. 12/11/2019 A favourite prototype of mine is thought to be the...
