Re: Job finds fellow steamer
Strange how these things happen. I have been working at the same place for 15 years and found out only 3 years ago that one of my team's husband had a 32mm garden railway, in the same village, about 200 yards away...needless to say, we're now mates!

Re: My Winter Project - 2 Car Multiple Unit
I agree with Andrew re the jumpers, you've given them a very prototypical appearance. Until I saw the last pic. I was hoping Elf & SafT had isolated power to the pillar drill. Grant. No, the power wasn't isolated but I completed a full risk assessment and method statement and concluded ...

Re: My Winter Project - 2 Car Multiple Unit
Hi guys. Managed to carve out a little time to get into the workshop so the railcar has made a little more progress. I'm concentrating on getting the leading car finished off and I will be fitting this with Deltang and a sound card which I'm about to order. A lot of electronics work in this update! ...

Re: Why Live Steam?
It's been really interesting to read all the responses to Rik's post. I love my live steam loco's and I currently have 3 of them. BUT, weather I choose to run them depends largely on my mood. Rik is correct that a certain degree of faffing about is needed to prepare a loco but I quite like that proc...

Have some more lovely comments - That really does look nice, love the colour. Cheers! :), there is, by chance a very nice bridge in the background! I rather like those. Another cracking job! Cheers, Peter in VA Cheers Peter! Hi Jim, They look absolutely outstanding, the livery really sets them off....

Re: My Winter Project - 2 Car Multiple Unit
Hi Jim. What a fantastic method of fabricating a roof. Looks fabulous. Like I usually do, you want it removable. How is it held on. Mine have a thin frame glued to them that just fits inside the coach sides. I might try this fabricating method with my next model if that's ok. D. Hi David Of course ...

Re: My Winter Project - 2 Car Multiple Unit
Happy New Year Chaps! I managed to fit in a couple of days in the workshop over the Xmas break so I have a little update. Hope you like it. Loads more to finish but it is definitely getting there. I have got the trailing car made up now, I haven't included lots of pictures of the construction as its...

Re: New Roundhouse
OK so RH the new model choice seems to have started some healthy debate. The tram is a good choice.... I know that Rob makes the kit already and it is a really beautiful model (as with all Swift Sixteen products) BUT it is not for everyone to make such a kit for their loco, many people like to buy a...

Re: Revamping the stream
I was chatting with one of the blokes who asked me what scale I model. When I said 16 mill, he asked where I was based. As soon as I mentioned I was between Nantwich and Chester he said, " You must be Rik. The Peckforton Light Railway. " I think that, in the parlance of our times Rik, thi...

Re: What on earth?
I come across bevel gears made from Tufnol now and again in my full time work, they nearly always date from the 50s and rarely show signs of wear.
Was quite a versatile material really.

Re: New Roundhouse
With me being new I suppose any type of Roundhouse loco will be nice to own, better start saving. I saved up for ages for my first live steam loco - an Accucraft Ragleth (which I still own and steam). I craved a Roundhouse loco and eventually bought a Katie kit which spread out the cost consi...

Re: My Winter Project - 2 Car Multiple Unit
The livery is rather nice under natural light. I was wondering about what the battery compartments were for but now I know. Very elegent solution to hiding them. What is it about railcars/railbuses that are so appealing despite there not beeing a huge number of examples of prototypes? Yes, it's the...

Looking forward to seeing some pics of that! My wife is 100% OK with my railway hobby...she is a musician and artist so needs her own expensive "toys" - as we work together in our full time jobs, we're also both happy with each other taking time out for our own hobbies! I'm lucky, right! ?...

Re: My Winter Project - 2 Car Multiple Unit
Ok, so here is my weekly update and I managed to have a quick test out on the track between showers to prove my bogie design an make sure i wasn't going to be hitting the tunnel sides...which thankfully, I didn't. Nice to see it move under its own power but of course I have a load to do to finish th...

Re: My Winter Project - 2 Car Multiple Unit
James, that's truly inspirational. Would you be so kind as to pass on details as to your moulding and casting techniques? Hi, thanks for you comments and happy to talk through what I do. I must say I am not a moulding expert but have been dabbling for a couple of years. If you want expert advice, I...
