Re: DJB Engineering Accucraft whistles

Doesn't really matter. You will get one designed for Edrig and it will fit. I put them on all my locos

Re: Accucraft Ragleth burner issue

Take the smoke box off (screws underneath) and run without on a rolling road or on blocks. Might have a steam leak where the main steam pipe joins the manifold.Either way you will see how it is working. I am presuming the gas 'pops' back into the fire tube. Chuffed To Bits or Barley Pit loco Works c...

Re: Why Live Steam?

Ah the Trepolpen. I went down to Truro to see Peter Denny quite a few years ago to write an article about his garden railway for Model Railway Enthusiast. Absolutely fascinating and I know that the local 9 Gauge group used to visit regularly for running days when every signal box was manned. Mind th...

Re: Why Live Steam?

I certainly don't see your posts as knocking live steam and indeed in many areas we think the same. For instance both of us like to run our trains through a proper scale infrastructure. My whole (admittedly small) back garden is 16mm scale (other than a removable washing whirly) including miniature ...

Re: Why Live Steam?

There is certainly a learning curve with coal firing Rik. It is one of those things. Do remember learning to drive? I was knackered after an hours lesson. The same thing with coal firing and, like driving it becomes second nature. Have you ever driven to work and didn't remember going through ten se...

Re: Why Live Steam?

Interesting isn't it? of course it all comes down to personal preference. Personally I moved into the garden to run live steam locomotives. If I were to run track or battery power then I would most certainly remain comfortably within the confines of the central heating to do so. The description of s...

Re: Loco Wheel painting

I always go for this simplest option. What I do is turn the locomotive on its side and drift paint into the dished section of the wheel with a brush. any pint over the rim can easily be wiped off. No need to use etch primer as long as de-greased. I am looking a a loco now and the paint is fine after...

Re: Mandatory boiler testing

More worries about something that isn't happening. Briefly, if you buy a commercial locomotive with pressure vessels below 3 bar litre (practically everything in our scale) you will not need to undertake either a twice working pressure with fittings off or a 1.5 working pressure with fittings on. Co...
