Re: My Mamod Quarry - Update
Very interesting, I had planned to fit a pair of traction tires to the drive wheels of the new larger diesel I've been working on, but decided to start with just one tire. Given the tight curves of my line, it seemed like two might cause skipping with a solid axle between them (no differential). Ah...

Thanks for the heads up Graeme. Ordered, not that I will ever build one, but a friend is slowly working towards completing one.

Abandoned industry Now thats a novel idea. We all tend to go for pristine buildings, but I love this. The first building I made for my railway was an abandoned pottery - the original "raison d'etre' for my line. Pic below, but not eligible for this quarter's competition. P1020598_web.jpg

Lovely jubbly!Old Man Aaron wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 9:41 am Scrat, I must say it's nice to see buildings like that in the larger scales.
Really looking forward to seeing the entries for this one. Details are always fun to pour over.
Not a lot of detail on this one, but here's mine.

Re: Mamod Quarry loco - hellllp!!
Mamod's have always had 'interesting' running characteristics🤦♂️, but to begin with I think Aaron is right - it needs to be run in before you begin to see its true running characteristics. By the way - your railway looks like an excellent candidate for an Inspectors visit - I can see a great yarn d...

Re: Cheapo diesel sound card
Can you borrow a prog 4 to programme it with, or borrow a different TX, like a TX20? I have a Prog4 but it no longer works with the serial cables/Coolterm.. it's all obsolete. Nobody I know within half a days journey to borrow from ( I think you are about the nearest! ) unfortunately and it'...

Re: Baseboard Construction
Fibre cement sheeting is available from the usual stockists in the UK, usually advertised as bathroom tiling backing sheet. I have 2 boards which have been stored outside ready for a project I have not yet got around to. They are completely unaffected by the elements so far (rain, frost and sunlight...

That looks really good. It'll be interesting to see it complete with a 'weathered' appearance.

Re: Vintage footage
It's a great piece of filming. I've always felt that Lynton was missing some element - a 'je ne sais quoi' if you will. I think the railway is it - it justifies the cliff railway and the lovely architecture in an otherwise isolated town.

Re: HGLW loco tweak
Nice to see another sister to my Mochyn. I couldn't get rechargeable batteries in mine with radio gear and one of your 'greeting card' sound cards, so I plumped for a permanent tool wagon, which I don't think looks out of place. Using a pair of 18650s, it will run all day and then some - I didn't re...
