Really it was these holes that were kind of a pain.
I think that this locomotive was designed in metric- a complication for an American who prefers inches.

Mamod Frame Holes

Hello! Would anyone happen to have the dimensions for the holes on the Mamod locomotive frame, specifically from the center of the cylinder (the trunnion? I believe its called) to the front axle? If anyone has a drawing of a Mamod frame that has worked for them it would be very much appreciated. My ...

Graeme, I had never really planned on trying to make anything massive on these machines. Even if I did, most of the parts would still be small anyhow. If I had to use the Lagun monster mill, it might be for the frames? Or something large? Otherwise, all the parts would be small. Besides, it would be...

To be totally honest- I am torn between the Sieg X2/C2 and the Taig machines. The big reason that Taig has some appeal to me (besides being made two hours from where I live here in Arizona- aka Tantooine) is the price and quality. The reason with the Sieg is I have a lot of the tooling that it woul...

Machine Recommendations

How's it going everyone!

What size mill and lathe would you all suggest for building gauge one locomotives? If anyone has any suggestions that would be awesome. Thank you!

I have a mill- but I think my Lagun should stay with the 7 1/2" gauge club at the workshop.

Locomotive Plans?

Does anyone know where I could find plans for locomotives? I am learning machining and would like to find a simple project to start on.

Also, I know that locobox went out of business- but is there any way to find drawings of their locomotives?

Thank you!

If I had that kind of space I think that I would copy the Haywood prototype full sized and call it a day :P

Roll models has some beautiful locomotives, but those are just plain massive.

I had a momentary streak of blonde infect my hands when I was typing that.

I meant 2 1/2 inch scale not gauge- I know better than that.

2 1/2" inch scale on 7 1/2" inch gauge track- makes for 3 foot gauge.

Its more along the line of probing for opinions a little from anyone that might have some experience with these scales.

Oh, and if anyone knows of drawings and castings for 2 1/2 inch gauge models that would be amazing. I have a soft spot for them.

I thought it looked pretty interesting actually.

Would be neat to make some real pistons for it.

Something interesting I found

I don't know if I would trust this website necessarily, but this little model does look interesting.

First Project Debate

I finally by some miracle have moved to an area that there is a live steam club in town. Shop, people to help me build my first steamer of some sorts, everything. To say I am over joyed is an understatement. But, oddly enough I am starting to realize that picking a project to start with is not that ...

Alright British people.

I have a question for you.

http://www.geog.port.ac.uk/webmap/thela ... k17181.htm

Where on earth do you source track like this?
Or how do you make it? Is it just a jig or something of the sort?

Please, that would be interesting.

How tight of a turning radius do you think such a small locomotive would have?

Ah! I see... Well if that's the case why not settle for a 5" battery loco to begin with? They're alot lighter and easier to shift about and wouldn't be too bothered by the sand. Sand and oil basically makes a grinding paste that completely ruins bearings. You can convert a gas fired loco to ru...

Well sir if that's the case. I won't lie I am a little nervous at the notion of coal firing for the first time. What makes matters worse for me is that I will have to travel-no matter what- if I get into this hobby in order to partake in it- until I have a more permanent place to live. That is *part...
