I'm a steam man through and through but this has even captured my attention. I'm also watching with interest. :thumbright:

Re: DECEMBER 2020 GALLERY ENTRIES HERE

In the interests of keeping the competition spirit alive and following on from Philipy's theme, here's an offering from the Charnwood Forest Light Railway taken this morning on the curve just above Anstey station. Not the most inspired piece of photography you will ever come across (nor the finest p...

One of if not the best technical record I've ever read of any line - and definitely the best on the L&B.

Hi David,

What a beautiful drawing set. Today's CAD wizz kids wouldn't have a clue!

Nice lining too, by the way.

Hi David,

Thanks for the additional information and link to the web site. It was very interesting, I'd no idea it had such a long history. I shall be paying much more attention to my surroundings next time I'm out that way.

All the best,

Re: Quarry Hunslet.

Hi David,

Did Groby quarry have a narrow gauge system then? I never realised - a bit of a sad admission seeing as I only live about seven miles away myself!

All the best,

Re: The Leawarra Nayook Railway

Oooooooooooooo! I just love it when Grant posts more photo's. I really feel like I'm there when I look at them - almost to the point of smelling warm creosote and steam and hearing the escaping steam from the loco's over the noise of the countryside surroundings. Thanks Grant, you've improved my day...

Re: Sandstone and Termite

Hello Graham, Thanks for sharing that information. It makes perfect sense. The greater the surface area of contact between wheel and rail the less the wear will be on the reduced section rail of the crossing vee, it will also reduce the amount of wear on the knuckle of the wing rail. Both these are ...

Re: Populating a quarrymen's train

HI Trevor, What an amazing project! There have been previous topics about the production of figures but never on this scale. Mass production risks having twenty almost identical copies of half a dozen 'base' figures. You see to have avoided that admirably! They are a fantastic achievement and a trul...

Re: Sandstone and Termite

Nice work Greg, it's not often a bit of retimbering ends up in culvert construction! You make an interesting point (pardon the pun!) about the rails alongside the crossing vee. In the construction of built up crossings (i.e. those assembled with bolts through the rails suitably held at the right dis...

Re: Joining code 200 bullhead to other stuff

This is beginning to turn into a Pway 'house of horrors'! Graff B's photo is of a fairly unusual exampleof a junstion plate, it's a 'junction lift' plate (the worst sort for breaking - even more stress risers due to the step in the top surface) designed to join worn rail to less worn or ne...

Re: Joining code 200 bullhead to other stuff

It used to be done with a pair of junction fishplates but the track standards changed about ten years to make welding a requirement. The reason was that the change in fishplate shape produces 'stress risers' meaning that they are very prone to breaking. There are still plenty out there mind you! Ton...

Hi Andrew,

That's possibly one of the most prototypical derailments I've ever seen!

As Rod said, the natural 'cushion' was well placed!

It's a topic that has been discussed on here before but I'm blowed if I can remember where now. No doubt Tom will have a whizzy means of searching for it and posting a link :notworthy: As I've said on here before, Cliff Barkers track is quite simply beautiful. It's a great representation of narrow g...

Rod, it's fun so long as it's just for me. Doing it as a side business would make it a job. I am allergic to work. :) Ain't that the truth! I wish I could turn them out as fast as you Dwayne, the turnout I currently have on the bench has been there for at least two months - and it's only half finis...

Hi Dwayne,

Nice work again. I like the stub point idea. It's a good start. You're making better progress than my current turnout build - it's been on the bench for well over a month now! I'm looking forward to seeing your track start to grow on the new railway.

All the best,

Hi Grant,

Another visual treat!

You have taken great care in your selection of unprocessed lumber, each piece looks just like a scale trunk. I shall get a great deal of pleasure from studying these closely over the next few days. Thanks Grant,
