Re: Upgrading Ivor
If anyone wants to do the same sort of thing I'm happy to share the file for getting the wheels 3D printed! The chassis needed a fair bit of bodging so you might be better designing one from scratch.

Re: Upgrading Ivor
Chassis and everything finished, Jones the Steam and Dai Station all painted and varnished. I think the effort of making the wheels and chassis from scratch was definitely worth while...

Upgrading Ivor
We bought one of the Ivor kits available as both our boys love Ivor the Engine. I haven't enjoyed building it but that's just me and card kits really. What I did feel let the kit down was the wheels they provided which were also slightly brittle.... https://i.ibb.co/5TG7pZx/PICT0033.jpg When compare...

I'm in the process of building their Ivor for our eldest, post on upgrading the chassis to come, and it's fading already just from sitting on my modelling table!

Make a sign saying "Door to be kept closed when not in use, Order of the management" or words to that effect. Much easier

Re: Hobbymat MD65
I've a little experience from school and working a bit on lathes over the last 4 months. I've recently got comfortable enough to buy a new one (£750 for absolutely everything that I'll need except a dial gauge) and think you are right to wait. Unless there were extras to the one you were looking at ...

Re: The Ravenser Odd and Saxon Town Railway
Well, due to an impending house move all of the track has been lifted now, all that remains of the railway is the limestone gully which the bridge ran over and the cement ramp which went up to the mine shaft openings. New house has a bigger garden though

We had a look at them, when you added shipping filcris was much cheaper for what we wanted.

So it's taken a while, paint job isn't finished but I thought I'd try to put together a video of it running! Sorry about the jerkyness of the filming, first attempt and all that! I cut out a few bits and unfortunately the video editor has squished the image a little!

One of the other visitors who was there on the day filmed it and put it onto Youtube. The turntable bit starts at around 11 minutes 40 seconds, the family in shot is us!

Portable turntable - North Ings Farm Museum
We had a great day today at the North Ings Farm Museum in Lincolnshire. In the best way possible it's just a collection of loco's, rolling stock, tractors and stationary engines run by some really nice people. We were lucky that they needed to move some coaches out of the shed just before we left so...

Re: Clockwork Wren
Thanks for all the kind comments, I'll get the final colour coats done and then try and put together some video of it running. Based on how the chassis ran it's going to be fast!

Re: Clockwork Wren
Dome turning went a little wrong as I cut the boiler curve a bit too high resulting in a shortened dome. However I still had enough of the PVC bar to make a second dome so that was okay. I've finished off the cab roof with a bit more bracing than a real Wren and sprayed a coat of primer on to see wh...

Re: Wheel quartering
And the answer is no, if you need to replace an axle on an original mamod you need to either find a second hand one or replace both axles. On the plus side they have updated the wheel set page on their web shop to state that the wheel sets are not cross compatible because of the quartering. Just a b...

Re: Wheel quartering
Just received an email stating that MSS wheels are quartered differently to Mamod wheels, in spite of the web shop claiming that everything is completely compatible. I await a response to my reply asking if they actually sell compatible wheels  On the other hand the response has been next work...

Wheel quartering
So having found out that my mamod has a warped axle I ordered a replacement set of MSS rear wheels from from dream steam only to discover that one wheel is 180' out when compared to the mamod wheels. I'm assuming that this is a manufacturing error as they are supposed to be direct replacements and h...
