b & m homestores Classic Steam Train Set

Don't know if anyone else has spotted these. I went into a B&M homestores yesterday for the first time and spotted what looks suspiciously like a 32mm gauge train set. http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo30/a3000inperil/PICT0003_1.jpg I didn't have a ruler (and couldn't find any for sale) so me...

Sadly I won't be able to attend this year, I have the joy of taking our toddlers to a party and have been told by SWMBO that I'm not allowed to persuade the toddler that he'd rather go to the show.

If Budget Boulevard is still in existence next year I'd be happy to bring it along for show and tell :)

Thanks for the nice comments :) We have friends who live the other side of Scunthorpe so go past the steel works every so often, it's possible the slag ladle they have by the road there crept into my subconscious. The mine at the far end of the railway is to be limestone and ironstone (in keeping wi...

Budget tippers

Based on the double pack of Binnie bolsters that they sell for bogies I fancied something a little different in the way of a tipper truck for the quarry. I had been planning on making some Ruston tippers (and probably will eventually) but a chance observation when we bought some discount fairy cakes...

Slow on updating, at New Year we had the first live steam run.... http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo30/a3000inperil/PICT0123.jpg Which revealed just how badly some of the track had subsided resulting in a derailment :( The Mamods both need a proper servicing too, couldn't get a reasonable amount ...

More ebay madness, someone's trying to sell Cambrian Models stuff at vastly inflated prices, £12 for two signal ladders when they are £1.90 each +p&p direct!

A lot more track laid, in fact there's only a 10cm stretch left to do. http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo30/a3000inperil/IMAG0557.jpg http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo30/a3000inperil/IMAG0559.jpg For some reason I don't have any pictures of the wrap around the greenhouse which is on wooden sc...

I'm on a tight budget so scratch building, I'm enjoying improving my modelling skills. I am having to buy in wheels and such like as I don't have access to a lathe or similar tools. Wouldn't mind to do some cheque book modelling, assuming I can find someone willing to lend me their checkbook

I shrunk the images in the end, the originals were halfway to being 16mm/ft. I'd scanned it in a while ago with the intention of converting it to a vector graphic and scaling up that way (I like working from 1:1 plans) hence the high resolution and large size. I'm sure I'll get around to making the ...

Best I've got are the plans from Railway Modeller April 1993, it does have the later stovepipe chimney that Lynda was fitted with. Would they be useful?

No, we're good. There has always been an agreement that the garden railway is on a shoe string budget, especially with two little ones who could rampage like Godzilla if they are in the mood (also their Grandpa who believes them when they tell him that they are allowed to touch things or walk on the...

I mentioned those to the financial authorities as they are absolutely perfect. The reply was 'So you are just going to make the one truck then at that price....'

The hornby wheels looked good but were too small. The binnie wheels are great looking but I've ordered some Cambrian models ones which are 15mm diameter so close to the 1' even though they don't have the curly spokes. Just waiting for them to arrive now.....

Quarry trucks

As the railway will have a small quarry/mine I've decided to try my hand at scratch building some simple quarry trucks. The Lincolnshire Life Museum has a nice little truck which was in use just up the road from us at the Greetwell Ironstone mines (before being sold down to Bedfordshire and used in ...

The track with the slight curve will have the slight curve removed and an engine shed plonked on top. The one leading to the dish is for a turntable. I'm going to have a look at the flower pot base method but (with future plans) will need an 18" turntable which will just fit so might be going d...

20kg of fine gravel arrived today and has resulted in stable track and a much neater looking railway :) http://i358.photobucket.com/albums/oo30/a3000inperil/IMAG0436.jpg Young assistant pushing the test truck along the track, I think he had become distracted by pulling up some weeds at this point :)...

Have to ask why are you cutting it with a cutting disc? A junior hacksaw might take a bit more elbow grease, but it doesn't make very fine dust and won't get hot enough to initiate an explosion, or turn into shrapnel......... I wasn't using a cutting disc, the hacksaw heated the track sufficiently ...
