Re: Ffestiniog Prince.

According to a piece by Allan Garraway in Michael Whitehouse's book "Narrow Gauge Album 1950-1965 " Prince after its overhaul "simply received a coat of green paint to enter service" but there is no mention of what colour it was when it went in to the works.

Re: wallabies

There have been reports of fishermen on a lake near Coventry having their sandwiches stolen by "kangaroos" which have turned out to be wallabies which escaped from a local zoo some years ago and seem to have gone native.

You do need to filter out the fluff etc (just look at the air filter). This is present in the water as well. I have been using it as well as filtered rainwater for some time.

Hi Rik,

I upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 about 4 months ago and so far no problems. It did seem to take rather along time, but that was probably my fault for doing other things when I should have been keeping an eye on the computer.

There are some photos of work around Beddgelert of which was started but never used in Boyd's "Narrow Gauge Railways in South Caernarvonshire". You can still see parts of an embankment and a bridge south of Beddgelert.

It is possible to clamp one end of a flat sheet in a vice and use a heat gun (very carefully) to soften the styrene and bend it around a suitable former. This is done in ship modelling for example.

Those look great Peter. Narrow Gauge & Industrial Review 85 published an article by Stuart Baker on these with drawings and photographs. One photo shows a 2 ton slate wagon being used as a match truck which possibly explains the height of the bolsters. The theory put forward in Stuart's article ...

An EU directive (proclamation) was issued in 2011 that all new cars approved for use in the empire must have day time running lights. I have a basic model Vauxhall Corsa, first registered in October 2013 that ios so fitted and I there is no switch.

Bob Barlow

I notice from another forum that Bob Barlow, editor of Narrow Gauge and Industrial, has died.

Apparently he had been ill for some time. Roy Link has taken over the magazine temporarily. I only spoke to Bob a couple of times but he was extremely helpful both times.

This railway is about 50Km south of Adelaide on the mouth of the Murray River. We rode it about 10 years ago whilst in Oz for similar reasons. There is a horse drawn tram in Victor Harbour and we were able to see whales off the coast although it may be the wrong time for them.

I thought I had seen a prototype for this and found it in Nick Anchen's book on Victorian narrow gauge in Australia on the Whitfield line.

See this link for a photo. Apparently it was used to carry the mail towards the end of the life of the railway.
