Electrofrog in 45mm

This probably just requires a simple yes / no answer.
Is electrofrog vs insufrog points even an issue when it comes to 45mm gauge track?
I'm coming from a N-Gauge indoor background where it most certainty makes a difference when running at scale speeds.

yes i'm running it indoors n-gauge at present and plan to use it in the garden as well.

Go for Electrofrog then as lights/sound will not cut out.

Do you know of any other manufacturers other than Peco - looking for some curved points to allow me to acheive this plan.

The radius you appear to be trying to achieve in your plan is more a set track style, you cannot get set track electrofrog OO/N points let alone larger scales ones.
Have you tried Cliff though for point components?

That plan is using (Piko R3) 920mm to (Piko R5) 1240mm radius curves - what would you suggest as a minimum?
I took the Piko quoted minimum for their rolling stock of 600mm (R1) and went with their R3 & R5 curves so i wasn't at minimum.
R5 straight points
R3-R5 curved points

Massoth do a power buffer at around £25 which can be used with their decoders (and LGB's) to take the loco over dead spots

Ahh brilliant!!!
The self assembly option is going to be the way forward for me i think, and i'll add some sort of on/off switch to allow programming as suggested on Peckforton Light Railway blog. - running on DC wont be a requirement and i already disable that on all of my N Gauge stuff as a matter of course.

Very helpful, just a quick question about the DIY stay alive device.
Will these work with pretty much any decoder, and that's why you have to disable the CV29, disconnect if you want to program etc?

I've only experience of LGB and Massoth decoders (Massoth make LGB's (now Marklin) decoders so they are more or less identical).
It would work with any decoder which has + and GND terminals - from the Massoth Power Buffer product page it looks like that includes Zimo and Lenz - but as I say, I have no direct experience.
