I would like to cast a station platform and a tunnel mouth. How do I get the stone blocks effect in the mold?
And any other tips would be appreciated.

iv never done this but been thinking about it iv seen people make a cast out of wood and made a stonework effect by applying mastic too look like the motor in the stone /brickwork if that makes sense

You can scribe the courses when the cement is in its 'green' state.
I've also  used lines of hot glue on the sides of my mould to indent mortar courses - see - http://riksrailway.blogspot.co.uk/2010/ ... idges.html

Seen it done with string or thin cord stuck to the inside of a mould.
Carving green concrete would probably be more simple.

For platform edging, I've used another couple of techniques.

1. Creating a mould and attaching stone 'slips' to the inside of the mould with grease.

2. Casting platform edging from JigStones moulds and then using them to define the platform edge before infilling with concrete

I've also scribed on the edges when the concrete is 'green'.

Of these three approaches, I'd say the JigStones mould is the most effective and the scribing is the least as I used gravel in the concrete mix and the stones in the mix prevented clean scribing. Might be OK if no stones are mixed with the cement but it might then make the concrete more brittle.

BTW - I do love concreting - one of the joys of garden railway modelling!

I have heard of Jigstones but the molds seem to be just available from the German supplier now at £43!!

Steve at Back2Bay6 used to be the supplier in the UK - but alas no more. I used to have a full set of moulds for stone and brickwork but I sold them on eBay. Maybe I should have held on to them - sounds like they would have been an heirloom.

Here is a photo of Bramley Bank showing a platform built using jigstones edging. This is an effective but labour intensive method. I have one mould but needed just under 50 castings for this station.
