I’m looking at the GRS 0-4-0 steam outline chassis 45mm and the industrial peckett 0-4-0 body kit, my question is (because I’m newish to garden railway)how good is the pulling power of these models, I know how good LGB / PIKO locos converted to battery power pull so would I be right in expecting the GRS kits to do the same.
Any help and or advice would be very much appreciated

Mine is 32mm and once the batteries and RC gear and 4oz of lead were added it is fine in pulling.

Hi I have two of the kits both 45mm and I find the pulling power is fine mine will easily pull 4 or 5 Accucraft wagons or 3 0r 4 coaches of medium size, I have also fitted a sound card and R/C (Timpdon)and they do look and sound the part, not easy to fit but it does work.

ps. the kits are not the best and they do need a lot of work on the resin but with the effort and work you can get a nice result.

With care GRS kits, locos and rolling stock, will build up fine. But I have to say that all could do with a serious update and clarification on their instructions. They have a wealth of detailing parts available too if you want to semi-scratch build something more personalized. Working on a Manning Wardel Mallet using their bits.

Have to admit after my Exe stripped 3 primary gears in succession, in what appeared to be a bullet proof gearbox with a total of about only 22 hours running, GRS agreed at no cost to replace it with a brand new Slaters "helical gear" type, at no cost. Max.

Wow! A rather interesting 'might have been'. It definitely looks plausable.

I've built a good few of their kits over the years and have a number on the go at the moment.

Instructions are often very poor but the other thing to bear in mind is resin can be a pig to paint. You need to Really wash it (I use devolved dishwasher tablets) as otherwise paint won't take to it very well. I imagine those kits will be quick to build.

I just wanted to say how impressed I am by the quality of finish you've achieved on these locos. They look fantastic. It just goes to show what can be achieved with GRS kits.
