Recently put the finishing (is a project ever really finished??) touches to my latest loco build. Based (loosely) on the Manning Wardle 0-6-0 saddle tanks which operated on the Davington Light Railway, she's based on the Piko 0-6-0 motor block. Plasticard body, brass motion (with copper pipe fittings for the cylinders), powered by three 18650 lithium-ion batteries and controlled by a Deltang rx65 receiver controller.

While my Aussie friend was here we decided to give her a hauling test. I must admit I was quite amazed by her hauling ability given that I had very little room left to add weight after installing the batteries etc.

There's a blow-by-blow account of how I built her on my blog

I'm afraid I'm more of a bodgeller than a modeller and I've included some of my more drastic mistakes in the hope that others will learn from them - I certainly have! One thing I've learned is that saddle tanks are not the easiest locos to build - side tank locos are a heck of a lot easier.

PS - Just noticed the roof is not fixed down properly - I still need to add a driver and a few more cab details - I also will be adding a sound card and tend to fix the speaker inside the cab roof before fixing that in place with clear Bostik (so it can be removed again if needed) - what did I say about a project never being finished??
