I have a Locomotive Reference List on my website which mainly covers steam locos, 16mm & 7/8ths scales, from the builders active in the 1980s & 1990s. This is only a very basic list and is also a work in progress. My hope is it will be useful in identifying locos, particularly the unusual & rare ones, that pop up on sites like ebay etc. I've deliberately left out Roundhouse & Accucraft as their respective websites cover those locos well enough.

Anyway, if anyone has any info on locos which are not on the list or spots any mistakes (i'm sure there are many ) please let me know.

There will be a lot of Peter Angus ones excluded but one I can assure you can add is the Robey and Co 0-4-0

Corrections:

Under David Hick, you can't spell Bagnall

Under Locomotion, you have two (apparently the same) Steam Engineers Buses

Matt, i've not heard of that one, thanks i'll look it up.

Brian, my spelling is not very good at the best of times so thanks for picking that up. The 2 Steam Engineers Buses have slightly different body detailing.

STEAMLINES

The Steamlines Aileen was actually called the Little Giant, what you have called little giant is actually a scratch built loco built using little giant parts. They sold lots of parts from these locos for homebuilders and various combination could be used for 32mm, 45mm and 2.5" gauges.

Little Wonder was a Merlin loco not Steamlines and used Mamod cylinders.

There were also other Steamlines locos such as the Shay, Garratt and a saddle tank that I can't remember the name of.

You have missed of all the German makers although perhaps most of their products are G scale such as Regner, M-D-T and others.

Another for the list is Argyle of Australia.

You have also missed off Steamcraft.

Thanks, like i said, it's a work in progress. I wasn't aware of any German manufacturers other than Beck & Regner that made 16mm or 7/8ths locos. I have listed Beck and will add Regner.

For Pearse you could add the 3 US locos, Switcher, Mogul and Colorado.

It really depends on how picky you are about scale as it can be a bit blurred as to what is 16mm and G scale as most builders used very rubber rulers.

I have the remains of a Steamcraft Atlas (well the chassis) If you want a picture. It ain't pretty!

Also what about Mamod/MSS there have been a few variations over the years on the basic loco.

Steve, thanks for pointing out the Merlin/Steamlines stuff, there does seem to be a lot of confusion/debate about Tom Cooper's locos.

Jim, i could include Mamod/MSS although technically they are not 16mm scale.

Sure! Peter is in my area group so I should be able to get some pics of what him and Mike have been building. There is a lot more to add to it on their loco front, such as their 7/8th Woolwich arsenal loco.

I think trying to limit yourself to 16mm and 7/8ths locos will be a bit fruitless as even quite a few of those you have listed were originally sold as other scales or with no specific scale, such as Merlin and Beck being G to start with and then G / 16mm, the Steamlines locos were a right mixture with Tom Cooper even trying to start people in 18mm scale for 2'6" gauge on 45mm track. It may be better to make a list a narrow gauge locos for 32mm and 45mm gauges.

Quite an undertaking you have taken on here - well done for grasping the nettle.
To the Gaskin list, add coal fired 'Rajim'.
Heritage steam produced the Kerr Stuart Sirdar, Gas fired.
Paul Millington produced a number, Including Merddin Emrys, Linda, Blanche, Russell. All Gas fired, I believe.
I've not got your list open now, but are the RTR locos produced by DJB in the 90ies on there?
