Vale of Fairway
Re: Vale of Fairway
Thanks Rik, think I will give that a go. Given I didn't plan ahead (not a first!) Would I get acceptable sound with a few holes in the footplate under the bonnet??

When I fall in love, it will be forever... found this barn in the next village complete with oil/diesel tank. If that side extension was a lean to with a track in it, it would be perfect, in my simple eyes. The next build has to be homage to this beauty.
Re: Vale of Fairway
I'd have thought so. I tend to fix them to the underside of the cab roof - amazing how the eye ignores them - but plenty of room for the sound to escape. (No good for an open cab loco though, so on my half-cab Black Hawthorn, I put it behind the firebox door and made the door openable )

Whatever style or period of construction you like, there is a prototype out there somewhere.
The best things in life are free.... so why am I doing this?
Re: Vale of Fairway
Will you build it with the same lean to the right, or level it up?
Seriously, although I can see the attraction of the brick building for an industrial type setting, its the earlier stone one that catches my eye. However as, Peter said, whatever takes your fancy....

Re: Vale of Fairway
A climbing frame project got in the way of railway time this weekend but managed 10 minutes of poor running that led me to decide I need to manage the level of under growth and hidden ballast movement. No real maintenance so far this year so who's to blame? A few shots of parked in the yard on a sunny Sunday.

Re: Vale of Fairway
The undergrowth looks brilliant though so don't hack it back too much.
Re: Vale of Fairway
Never fail to love your line Derek. Love the undergrowth too.

A bit of treated pine, some hardwood chair posts and some steel tig rods that should rust. The dock serves the business end of the big house that is off scene in the neighbours garden. I finally found a use for the small nail gun I bought a few years back, spitting nails becomes addictive. Final height will go up with ballast.
Re: Vale of Fairway
Testing clearances after ballasting it seemed a shame not to take a picture. The sharp curve to the left goes to a sand works or some sort of works that needs tippers and a rusty hopper to load'em
Re: Vale of Fairway
Really like those packing cases. Are they your own design?bazzer42 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 08, 2018 2:48 pm 20180608_143859.jpg 20180608_143849.jpg
Ted and Nipper stop unloading new packing crates to pose on the new loading dock.

Not my design I'm afraid. Dolls house 1/12 so slightly overcame but ok for me. I'm slowly cutting handles in the ends, adding weathering and Fairway Estate lettering with a cheap john Bull type printing set.
When I feel a little flush I top up with dolls house bits and add some crates to the order. This time it was Nipper, a thermos, a scythe and some tools.

Love your’e Loading Dock Derek, it doe’s look robust. And it will soon look weathered near that greenery.
Who cares if the packing case’s look oversize, they still work for me, has does Nipper, brilliant little addition mate. :thumb right:
Just wish I could get back to doing something myself, but there is stuff all over the new house….

Re: Vale of Fairway
I love the look of your railway, it's setting with all the planting and rocks creates the illusion of a working line very well.
Re: Vale of Fairway
A few shots of the new gate installed by Timmy this afternoon. He built the hinges by wrapping brass strip around a tig rod and soldering the tails. Hooks in the post from bent aluminium tig rod. The gate could do with some strapping at some point.
I'm a bit concerned about the slight upward lift of the rails but my circus.....

Re: Vale of Fairway
Bake bean cans roof will rust well outside but if you don't want it to go too rusty wait until it goes the colour you want and then lacquer the crap out of it.
