Railway Ballast believe it or not... there was a part in the yard that had this fine stone near to the track. It's not big enough for anything really so I asked if I could take a bit home... it's the same stuff I've used previously.

I did wonder. Are they about 1/4" in size? If so they are MSP chippings. I'll bear that in mind. They are about the same size as the chippings used by the highways to 'repair' the roads. I've always had it in mind to try them too.

I'm also very impressed with your ballasting, one question though does it not cause problems with chippings getting into point blades or birds etc dislodging it?
I've always been led to believe that ballasting above the sleepers in our scales is a definite no no.

I've no idea... it's not been down long enough to work out if it was a good idea or not... I think its just that big enough not to jam anything up but small enough to look right...
Over time I'm sure some of it will wash away or sink but I have a large tub of it so its just a case of topping it up.

Your line looks wonderful with the plants growing and the realistic ballasting. Although the flowers are hardly in scale with the railway, they still look much more natural than bits of green felt stuck to plywood on a regular indoor model. I guess this is why we (almost) all risk wind and rain to model outside. Great result.

I must agree with you Jim, we couldn't live without our sheds!
However, I have no objection to sharing mine with a few arachnids.

You can't beat an extension but all hints are falling on deaf ears.
I love the Bertie and have a hankering for a Millie or a Bertie.
Can you still use the large bridge?
I'm still waiting to rid my shed of a gruffalo!

And in my usual fashion, the old formation is no more and the new trackbed is in and just missing a few lengths of track until tomorrow...
