Hi

Has anybody any experience of Occre kits?

I have just found this thread and although I have no personal experience of the kits, I can tell you that a friend has received two kits for Christmas. He is usually a boat builder to a very high standard (I've seen them and they are beautifully made), however he decided to make these and showed me the kit of parts.
He is building the Soller tram and the Rocket. The boxes contain everything needed to make a static display model and comprise stripwood, laser cut ply panels, brass rod and high standard whitemetal castings.
If you are still interested I will try to post some pictures of the build.

I have a friend that is making the Rocket, He had Spanish instructions in his kit he E.mailed the address in the box and they sent him the English instructions within days and replaced a dodgy part, He said he was most impressed with the kit.

went into Hobbies of Raveningham (nr Beccles, Suffolk) last week to buy some stuff and noticed they have a good range of Occre kits on display.
The boxes have a plastic window displaying a number of the components and they look very tempting especially the Rocket.

but if you are in the area they could be worth a visit as they stock a lot of modelling material and a range of tools and kits for boats, dolls houses and other stuff.
They seem to have a discount on the man price for the Occre kits.

I´m mulling over buying the LCC tram kit and converting it to a trailer for a steam tram. There´s quite a lot of comments out there in the interweb thing concerning building tips (though not all of it in English ). They are not however the slap-together-with-a-little-glue-and-more-luck style kits that I´m used to to, so I´m thinking about this carefully. Be a shame to bodge it at the prices they ask.

I'm sure you won't bodge it.

Hi,
I'm all for a bit of positive encouragement but as I can at best be described as a moderately experienced kit builder (amongst other things) my advice to you is to dwell on the components in the kit rather than some of the superb results some modellers have produced with similar components. Those that have 'bodged' the kit are likely to hide away their models and not proudly publish photos of them on the interweb.
Some say, 'Nothing ventured, nothing gained.' which is easier to say when someone else is footing the bill.
