Some fun with the scales...

Never been one to accept the norm, so I've indulged a little fantasy...

I know that this has been worked out before but:-

32mm is equal to 1 1/4 inches

1/12th scale is (of course) 1 inch to 1 foot

Therefore - 32mm in 1/12th scale is exactly 15 inch gauge


1/12th figures are readily available from the dolls house trade, in fact there seem to be dozens of resin figures in a great many poses.


So I attach two photos taken recently of the 15 inch gauge Bassett Lowke built 4-4-0, YORKSHIRE.

Although thought by many to have been scraped in the 1960's, YORKSHIRE has at last been restored to original condition by it's present owner, Christopher Potts who is seen below posing with YORKSHIRE.



Also photographed is Mr Joseph Grey, who drove YORKSHIRE many years ago. Joseph is seated on the tender of his old steed.

Of course Christopher's absolute "Pride & Joy" is this massive 15 inch gauge Penrhyn Hunslet built for him by a well known maker of miniature railway locomotives.

Although based on Penrhyn CHARLES, this locomotive has the addition of a tender (like the Ffestiniog Hunslets), for the full size driver...

Excellent, always love to see modelling of 15 inch gauge, looks like Yorkshire is about the right size for a Bassett Lowke class 30 or so. Whilst the Charles looks about right if you made a 5/8th size model, which would be about right for 15 inch gauge. I remember reading a long time ago about somebody in South America who had a 5/8th scale Darj on 15inch gauge track
