What now?!

Well as some will know i have bought a SL1 set and am now loco and stock hungry!!
I need to get two boxes of track and have £40-50 left but dont know what to get!
Suggestions and help please!

Somthing from I.P Engineering, or buy some more helpful upgrades for the mamod.

I'd surgest the same as SillyBilly, although with that money you could by several mdel people from Busy Bodies to make your line more realistic.

Water top up valve and a meths burner are a must to get a Mamod running better. Followed by an uprated safety valve.
Unless you have a very good runner, performance on solid fuel is quite poor for average old style Mamods, and if you have been provided with out of date solid fuel be very careful as once it gets damp it tends to explode quite violently when used later. You will need to use the MSS square tablets as Mamod only now produce circular tablets which are not a good fit in the solid fuel burner tray.
Dream Steam was considering offering various packages of upgrades aimed at starters like you.

I was lucky in the fact that in the Set there was a meths burner (all be it needing some new wicks) and uprated pistons and all the old stuff.

The MSS ones, or the 'O' ring pistons?
If it is the 'O' ring pistons then you will need to fit a lubricator. Dead leg one from Dream Steam works OK, and here is a guide to fitting it -

As an interim meaure though, in case you can't afford a Meths burner right away, one of my friends said to me once that it helps to boil the water in a kettle
before you put it in the boiler when using solid fuel tablets, as otherwise they tend to run out of fuel just when they raise pressure!
Perhaps someone can verify whether or not this is a good idea?

Very good idea, I do it on my Edrig, not only does it help raise steam, but also removes whatever limescale's in the water.
