Well I have just started building 3 model town kits and I am painting them with enamel paints. these buildings will stay outside all year round.
I want to see your buildings and tips for outside dwelling models

Use masonry paints for base colours - you can get sample pots from B&Q. Just use enamels for the "gloss paint" bits.

You've seen my current motley collection!
but despite that, my top tip would be the beading of
all interior joints with car body filler!
Best price locally is JeeJays in Alfreton
Secondly, the clear plastic from CD cases (available cheap from Poundstretcher) makes brilliant glazing which doesn't appear to discolour as quickly as the stuff supplied with the kits

The only problem I've experienced with acrylics is that for some bizarre reason slugs / snails
eat it!
Other than that, it lasts outside just as long as masonary paint and enamel on my buildings

Have had the odd problem with acrylics being ever so slightly less weatherproof than masonry here. I use acrylics as tints to masonry paint when mixing the various Compton hues.
If you're lucky your local tip is as helpful as ours.... they keep anything useful back for re-use which includes dozens of opened & unfinished masonry paint in various colours - all FREE!!!
