gas filler valve

the gas filler valve on my Jane's gas tank is sizzling gas when I've filled it. It's not a drastic amount, just a extremely low hiss. However as I want to run it up the club I don't especially want it letting go when the loco is in steam. It looks like theres a little adjustor inside much like a safety valve. Does tightening this up stop the gas escaping, or is it something else? The tank is that supplied by Dream Steam.

there are no adjusters on the valve. If its leaking its most probebly worn and knackered. the only thing that might save it is taking the filler valve out and blasting it with compressed air or soaking it in thinners to break up any dirt that may have crept into it

There is usually a sealing washer between the filler valve and the tank body, and they don't last forever.

Brush it with some soapy (washing up liquid) water to find out exactly where it is leaking.

well I put some lighter fluid on it to try and get rid of any foreign bodies that way, and its done very little to help so I suspect its got to come apart. No matter, not exactly a hardcore thing to dismantle. Bit irratating though, was rather looking forward to taking it to GMES, never mind, as least I've got Ruby as a back up.

Did you try the soapy water test? Where is the leak coming from?

the valve isn't seating properly, and its letting gas out. The actual tank itself is ok, its just the filler valve.

I think your right and the O rings gone. I'll take the tank up the railway workshop and see if we have anything I can use to unscrew it.

Dream Steam has been very helpful and are supplying me with the tool to get the valve out, once I've got that I can sort it.
