Roundhouse Millie Modifications

Post by cjallenby » Wed Mar 17, 2010 4:19 pm

The railway has taken its roundhouse millie into the workshops for modification. Due to problems with the radio control this engine has not been running for sometime now. The modifications will include repainting into works grey, on board(!) radio control a new cab amde from the old full cab and the current open cab and directonal working lighting! The paint out of works grey will be carried out once everything is working again and it will be maroon all over including the boiler with black and white linning. So far dismantaling has been carried out and full pictures will be posted later as I am now back at uni... :x

Sounds good, I've been considering R/C options for my Bertie and would ideally like on board R/C.

BTW, what uni are you at? Today I went to an open day at Falmouth to a Uni-fair where they had stands for the different ones, cus soon I gotta decide what I'm gunna do! (off topic I know  )

I think it will look really good in works grey. Especially like the the whrs number 87 in that colour and think it's a shame to repaint it. :(

No it wasn't, because of all the rivet heads cleaning it was hell, and it still didn't look great.

I can understand from a cleaning point of view that it wasn't the best colour but I think it looked quite nice.

There's a fantastic name... no 87 has been repainted in a nice dark blue?

Yes it is. Im taking inspiration from you and all my steam engines will be named after local rivers! (electric engines dont really venture out anymore due to track cleaning and electrical continuity issues. )

When it was in the paintshop it looked more purple, not sure if the colour will work better when complete and out in the sun.

I only have one steam loco at present but my dad has three... Hopefully these will be naes as River Hamble and River Test. After that, local rivers become streams... Perhaps I could do River Solent? After the Solent which is a combined estury of two rivers. Having had some more thought I hope to name desils after local citys...

Convert 'em to battery!! Turn off and disconnect the track power - you'll be so glad you did :D

I cant face ruining very ancient LGB stuff... The otto has already been converted, but needs new radio gear in the tender as the previous car cicuit board was damaged by me from soldering. Its kinda ingenous combination and i can still use track power on it!

I would love to eBay the electric locos and get a new live steamer, but at the moment these have sentimental value and also work the indoor shelf railway (Yes sorry mr B I have a shelf railway too!) and the portable railway. (Actualy its not very portable and requires a large car and two people to move around and to set up...)

I have only pictures of the shelf railway here, but at home I am sure I have some of the portable layout and of the preivious incarnation on a two half doors with a fiddle yard at one end and a small station at the other.

I'd love to e some pics. I am thinking about doing something like this too as I am limited to the garage on my old model railway boards (14ft x 2ft) because I am not allowed in the garden. :(
